Some of the world’s billionaires are quite famous, with names like Warren Buffett and Jeff Bezos being widely recognized.

However, there’s one name you might not have come across, and there’s a good reason for that.

This is an Indian business tycoon who is the force behind brands like Land Rover and Jaguar, as well as Air India.

He’s also known for making some of the largest charitable donations ever.

This individual has given away a staggering 65 percent of his wealth, which is why his name doesn’t appear on the world’s richest lists, alongside people like Elon Musk.

The businessman and philanthropist in question is Ratan Tata. He is celebrated for his remarkable business acumen, which has propelled the Tata Group to an incredible net worth of $365 billion.

Tata led the Tata Group as its Chairman from 1990 until 2012, and he currently holds the position of Chairman of the Council of Management of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.

At one point, he was even offered a prestigious position with IBM, which he reportedly turned down so that he could focus on growing the Tata Group instead.

Despite amassing such an enormous fortune, Tata isn’t known for being prominently featured on rich lists, nor does he flaunt his wealth or rush to acquire high-value assets.

In fact, both he and his family have a long history of giving away a significant portion of their fortune.

Tata has personally given away an astonishing $100 billion to various good causes.

As of now, the Tata charities have donated over $102 billion to a wide range of causes, including healthcare, education, art, and culture, as well as other charitable efforts across India.

By giving away 65 percent of his income, Tata has managed to keep his name off some of the top billionaire rich lists.

This has not only helped countless worthy causes but also kept his earnings appearing lower than those of others on these lists.

As a result of his generosity, Tata’s income is often seen as lower than that of many others, who are making upwards of $250 billion.

But this has allowed him to stay focused on expanding his business empire while also supporting education, technology, art, culture, and various charities in his native India.

Entrepreneur Chinnakannan Sivasankaran has spoken highly of Tata in the past. In one interview, he said: “What is so special about Ratan Tata is his selflessness and patriotism.

"He is a very balanced person, always focused on excellence and the good of the country, unlike me, who is always after money.

“For him, money is just a byproduct. His objective was always about what he could do for the country, even if it took 20 years.

“He was planting seeds for the future, like a banana tree. I don’t have that kind of mentality.”
