A police officer has stepped down from his position following an incident where he ended up locked in the back of his patrol car with a female detainee for 20 minutes without calling for immediate help.

Recently, bodycam footage related to this event was made public.

Officer Anthony Hair of the San Diego Police resigned about a month after an investigation was initiated into the August 2023 incident.

According to Hair, he inadvertently locked himself in the vehicle with a woman who had earlier been arrested on suspicion of car theft outside a convenience store.

“He said he was really embarrassed.” SDPD

After her arrest, Officer Hair transported her first to the police headquarters and subsequently to the Las Colinas Detention Center for further questioning.

In the bodycam footage released by the San Diego Police Department, the woman can be heard propositioning Hair for sex and inquiring about his marital status.

The bodycam footage is available for viewing below, but be advised, it contains strong language:

In the video, she remarks: "You're not too bad. What's it gonna hurt me if I work the system, you know what I mean?

"That's the way I see sh**. Are you single?"

To which Hair responds, "yeah, but you're not."

She then proceeds to tell him she was "down to f***," but he immediately interrupts her, saying:

"Don't say that right now…don’t say that right now because everything is being recorded right now."

As they neared the detention center, Hair can be heard questioning what she was doing in the backseat.

Shortly after, he turns off his bodycam, slows the car, and drives onto a residential street.

Twenty minutes later, Hair contacted another officer for assistance after realizing they were both locked in the back of the car.

“He wanted to get with me when I was done." SDPD

The other officer recounted: "I asked him if he was OK. He said yes, and then asked if I had my patrol car key with me…

"I asked why he was asking and what did he need. Officer Hair then asked me if I could go meet him. He said he was really embarrassed."

Hair later told the police that he believed the woman was experiencing a medical emergency, which is why he was assisting her.

Although both he and the suspect deny that anything inappropriate occurred while they were locked in the vehicle, traces of semen were found on Hair's belt.

The suspect commented, "He wanted to get with me when I was done with the warrant or whatever I got arrested for."

It remains uncertain whether Officer Hair will face any criminal charges related to this incident.
