Only a few months after Britney Spears was freed from her conservatorship, the pop star announced the news of her pregnancy on Instagram.

Last year, Spears made shocking testimony against the conservatorship that had been controlling her life for the past 14 years and called the arrangement “abusive,” saying the people who managed it had refused to let her get her IUD removed so she could try to have another child.

“I want to be able to get married and have a baby,” Ms. Spears said last June. “I was told right now in the conservatorship I am not able to get married or have a baby.”

As the 40-year-old singer revealed to the world the birth control device that was inserted in her, the world was left shocked. She also shared how she was drugged and compelled to work against her will.

Reproductive rights advocates condemned the situation as a violation of her rights.

Spears opened up in her testimony and shared with the court how her father and others controlled every aspect of her life for the past so many years.

In November, a judge in Los Angeles ruled that the arrangement was no longer required, granting the singer newfound control over her life.

Ever since getting her freedom back, the 40-year-old singer has been very much open on her Instagram about enjoying her newfound life as she announced her engagement to her longtime beau Sam Asghari.

In her Instagram post, Spears made a lighthearted joke towards her partner — whom she now refers to as her husband — suggesting that she was “food pregnant” after a trip to Hawaii.

“So I got a pregnancy test …,” she wrote, “and uhhhhh well … I am having a baby.”

James P. Spears, Spears's father, who is known as Jamie, first petitioned the court for authority over his adult daughter’s life and finances in early 2008, claiming that her public mental heath and possible substance abuse amid a child custody battle were all difficult for her deal with alone.

The conservatorship ended up controlling Spears's life for a whopping 14 years, eventually drawing attention from the media and her fans who showed concern over her wellbeing over the years.

The pop singer shares two teenage sons with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

In one of her posts, Spears has also shed a light on her struggle with perinatal depression in a previous pregnancy and suggested that women couldn’t discuss the condition openly back then.
