A roach infested apartment complex was evacuated after a family of three were sent to the hospital after surviving an explosion in their apartment.

#2

The explosion was the result of one of the apartment occupants was spraying too much insecticide within the home to combat the thriving cockroach population. They got a headache from the fumes and needed to air out apartment so they opened a window. The Asbury Park Fire Department spokesman Garrett Giberson explained that the oxygen from outside mixed with the fumes to the right ratios that allowed the pilot light from the stove to ignite it.

The blast blew out the windows, caused severe damage to the kitchen and even bent the front door outward. The two adults and child in the apartment weren't seriously injured, but unfortunately Giberson said that the cockroaches also were unharmed.

The American Red Cross is providing shelter to the rest of the apartment complex occupants until everything is deemed safe.

But hey... at least the roaches are okay.
