The model said she and Amber Heard were close for a long time before things became more complicated.
Cara Delevingne has finally addressed one of the rumors that followed Amber Heard's split from Johnny Depp, saying she and Heard did date after the divorce.
The 33-year-old English model spoke about her past romantic relationship with the Aquaman star while reflecting on the period after they worked on the movie London Fields. The comments gave fans a rare direct answer after years of public guessing around the pair.
During an appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Delevingne discussed dating Heard, the Depp connection, and her own experience of realizing she was lesbian at a young age.
When the UK broadcaster carefully brought up the 'Johnny Depp thing', Delevingne did not jump straight into a long answer. She first responded: "Am I meant to comment?"
The Victoria's Secret star then explained that the connection began through work, because she and Heard had both been involved with the same film. She added: "It's because we did a movie together, and it was called London Fields. He was also doing the movie. I think he was pretty driven crazy by jealousy. Nothing was happening at that point. Later, after they divorced, it had, I suppose."
Her answer drew a line between the rumors during the marriage and what she says happened later. According to Delevingne, nothing was going on at that earlier point, but the relationship changed after Depp and Heard separated.
Theroux then asked Delevingne to be clearer about what she meant, and she described the situation as complicated rather than simple dating. She said: "We were close for a long time, and then when they were going through the divorce, yeah, we were entangled. But she was also entangled with other people."
The host then brought up tech mogul Elon Musk, whose name has long been tied to that period in Heard's life.
"Well, with Elon, there you go," Delevingne confirmed. Her brief answer also echoed past claims involving Heard, Delevingne, and Musk, which Musk has denied.
Heard and Musk were romantically linked until early 2018. That came after Heard's divorce from Depp in 2016, only about a year after she and the Pirates of the Caribbean actor had married.
The timeline matters because Delevingne's comments were not just about a private romance. They also touched a public period when Heard's relationships were being watched, picked apart, and later discussed again during the Depp-Heard legal fallout.
Why Cara's answer drew attention
Delevingne's comments stood out because she gave a direct answer to a rumor that had followed all three famous names for years. Instead of turning it into a dramatic confession, she framed it as a messy period where several relationships overlapped in the public eye.
People reported that Delevingne made the comments during a June 29 interview on The Louis Theroux Podcast, where she said the closeness with Heard developed after they worked on London Fields.
That context helps explain why Theroux pressed her on the wording. 'Entangled' can sound vague, but Delevingne's answers made clear she was talking about a real relationship during a complicated chapter in Heard's life.
Heard has not starred in a movie since the 2022 trial that drew global attention. A Virginia jury found that both Depp and Heard had defamed each other, though the verdict largely favored the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.
Elsewhere in the podcast episode, Delevingne moved away from the Depp-Heard topic and spoke about understanding her sexuality. She said she realized she was gay when she was around 11 years old.
She explained it this way: "Well, now I look back on it, it was super evident really young. I knew at, like, 11 years old."
"I had this one friend that I was like, 'Oh, I think I care about her more than she likes me, and I don't know how, but I do.' It was obvious now, but then it really wasn't, and I'm very proud of it now."
The model also spoke about why being open later felt meaningful to her, especially for younger people looking for someone to relate to. She added: "I think when I started talking about it and being open about it, I felt like there was a lot to fight for still at that point in terms of shows about gay people and people to look up to for younger kids."
