A Florida woman got busted for a hit and run after her own car called the cops on her!
Cathy Bernstein, 57, was speeding down the street in Port St Lucie after hitting a truck with her Ford when she then rammed into the back of another woman's van.
They airbag in Bernstein's Ford deployed which triggered the car's 911 Assist system SYNC to automatically call the cops and give details of her location. The vehicle helpfully put Bernstein on the line with a dispatcher where she denied being involved in an accident. The operator was a little disbelieving and the rambling, bizarre audio of the call can be heard on local news station.
Bernstein said she would never leave the scene of an accident and denied drinking or being involved in any incident at all. She told the operator a car had pulled out on her but no contact had been made and that she was now home and all was well.
However, Anna Preston, whose van was hit by Bernstein's Ford had also called the police to report the hit and run. She said she had been struck from behind by a black vehicle which then took off.

Bernstein was paid a visit by the cops who turned up to her house and saw the the front end of her Ford wrecked, and showing silver paint from Preston's vehicle. The airbag was deployedshe had driven five miles with it on her lap, but a brazen Bernstein continued to insist to the cops that she had hit a tree, not another vehicle.

Finally she admitted to the hit and run, and even confessed that she was fleeing from another crash when she rammed into Preston's car! She then attended hospital (not sure what her injuries were) where coincidentally Anna Preston was also in attendance for treatment to her back resulting from the crash. Preston says she saw Bernstein there, completely unaware that she was the cause of her injuries!
"I saw her in the hospital. I just went by, and I'm assuming she had a worse night than I did."/
Bernstein certainly did have a bad night. She was charged with a hit and run and later released from St Lucie County Jail.
