College Student Arrested And Expelled For Vandalizing Roommate's Property In A Hate Crime

A University of Hartford freshman is arrested after allegations of hate crime were shared on the social media. Brianna Brochu,18, of Harwinton, in order to get rid of her black roommate Jazzy Rowe, did unspeakably disgusting acts and proudly boasted about it on her social media account, but unfortunate for her, as her post came under the notice of officials Brochu not only got arrested but she is also expelled from her college.

In her Instagram post, Brochu detailedly wrote of the things that she did to get rid of her roommate Jazzy Rowe. Brochu in her post claimed she rubbed used tampons on Rowe,s backpack, spat in her coconut oil and placed moldy clam dip in her lotion.

The post read, "Finally did it yo girl got rid of her roommate. After 1 1/12 month of spitting in her coconut oil, putting moldy clam dip in her lotions, rubbing used tampons on her backpack, putting her toothbrush places where the sun doesn't shine and so much more I can finally say goodbye Jamaican Barbie."

Rowe in her Facebook video said for one whole month she was suffering from severe throat pain and it got to the point where she could hardly speak and could barely whisper. After getting several tests done, she was told by the doctor that she has 'bad type of bacteria' at the back of her throat.

According to Rowe, they hardly interacted with each other and despite this, she was targeted so badly by Brochu. "Which is why I think it's a whole racial hate issue," she said.

Brochu was arrested by the West Hartford Police Department on October 28 and charged with second-degree breach of peace and third-degree criminal mischief and according to the West Hartford Police said that “after a review” they will be requesting an added charge of intimidation based on bigotry or bias, a second-degree felony.

The president of the University of Hartford, Greg Woodward condemned this whole incident and described it 'deeply upsetting.' On Wednesday, Brochu was expelled from the school. According to School's president, "Let me be clear: the accused student's behavior was reprehensible and does not reflect the values of our institution. Let me also be clear that I am confident the University has taken all steps to pursue this matter seriously and will continue to do so."

Brochu when investigated by the Police, told the officer that she did all these acts because of Rowe's rude behavior towards her. According to Brochu, Rowe made fun of her snoring and posted videos of her sleeping on Snapchat. Brochu told the officer she requested room change in October but her request was denied by the administration.

After the incident, it got worldwide attention on social media and people took to social media to express their concern and disbelief over this hate crime. Shonda Rhimes, a television producer best known for Grey's Anatomy and Scandal, on Twitter, wrote, "That this type of ignorant hate can flourish in 2017 tests my faith in humanity. Who raised this inhumane ignorant waste of space? Who chose to be her friend and look the other way?"
