A wedding day is supposed to be the happiest moment of any couple's life however, as these confessions prove, this isn't always the case.
A new thread from secret sharing app Whisper has revealed the devastating aftermath of couples who have been left at the altar.
Taking advantage of the app's anonymity jilted brides and grooms have shared the heartbreaking details of their disastrous big days online.

#2 Many heartbroken couples revealed that their fiances had left them in favour of someone else on the day of their wedding.

One user confessed: 'I was cheated on and dumped before our wedding. We were together for over four years. It's the hardest thing I've ever had to survive.'

Another bride revealed: 'My fiance left me three days before our wedding because he wasn't ready. He married someone else three months later.'
#5 While some were abandoned before they made it down the aisle the effect was no less devastating

One jilted fiance revealed that they had taken a financial blow as well as losing their partner. They said: 'Mine cheated on me and I lost all my money on the wedding that didn't happ
In other cases people were left heartbreaking messages from their partners who could not break the news to them in person.

In another tragic tale a bride revealed: 'My ex let the wedding go on, called my phone and left a voice message. When I got home all his clothes were gone and I never saw him again.. we were together for three years.'
In one case a bride was cruelly tormented at the altar before her fiance left her.
She explained: 'My fiance laughed in my face when the pastor asked if he would take me to be his wife and humiliated me in front of my whole family and his. I'm currently in a custody battle for my son.'

However, not all the confessions came from those who were jilted. Others admitted that they were guilty of abandoning their future spouse.
'We were looking at wedding venues and I realised I wasn't ready to get married. I'm glad it happened sooner than later. It just hasn't hit me yet' explained one.
Another user confessed she had no quarms over her decision. She said: 'I left my boyfriend at the altar and I don't feel bad about it because it turns out he was sleeping with my stepmother.'
