When you're taking out cash from an ATM, what do you expect to pop out of the machine besides money? I mean yeah, an ATM that randomly gave you a cupcake or a cup of coffee would be cool, but it's probably the last thing you'd think would come out with your money.
And what about handwritten notes asking for help? How freaked out would you be if one of those popped out of your ATM?
Well, that's exactly what happened at a Corpus Christi, Texas Bank of America ATM.
#1 Police said:
Shocked customers at a Texas ATM got more than cash from the money machine when a technician trapped behind it slipped notes through the receipt slot begging for help.
#2 Officer Richard Olden of Corpus Christi Police told KRIS-TV.
“He left his phone in his truck, he’s installing a new lock on the door, and he gets locked inside the building where the ATM is.”
#3 When he realized customers were withdrawing cash from the ATM, he passed notes to them through the receipt slot.
One read, "Please help. I'm stuck in here and I don't have my phone. Please call my boss ..." The message included the employer's phone number.
#4 Some customers appeared to dismiss the notes as a gag, Lieutenant Hooper said, but one called the police.
"Sure enough, we can hear a little voice coming from the machine," senior officer Richard Olden said.
"So we're all thinking this is a joke — this has got to be a joke."
#5 Officer Olden said at first people thought the note was a joke, but somebody eventually took it seriously and called authorities.
#6 Olden said the man was rescued and was unharmed.
#7 The man was freed after spending more than two hours inside the Bank of America machine.
#8 Olden said:
“Everyone is okay, but you will never see this in your life, that somebody was stuck in the ATM, it was just crazy.”
