A horrific crime committed by this Rockhampton father was disturbing enough but the fact that he won't get enough punishment and that he will get by only a few months later has left the internet both furious and in shock. The man was sentenced to seven years in jail but with time served, he could be released on parole as soon as June 4, 2023.
This Rockhampton father could get out of jail in less than 12 months after getting arrested on charges of raping his teenage daughter and threatening her to not tell anyone about the assualt.
The 48-year-old man from Rockhampton, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to one count of domestic violence rape on June 10.
The man was sentenced to 7 years in jail, however, with time served, it is suspected that he could be released on parole as soon as June 4, 2023.
The court documents reveal the teenage victim woke up in her bed on the morning of the attack in early in 2021, to find her father was in her room.
It is reported that the only adult who lived in the house was not at home and had left for work, and it was still dark and the girl attempted to get back to sleep.
But she was approached by her father and she 'laid still in shock' as he raped her in the bed, Rockhampton District Court heard, according to The Morning Bulletin.
Crown prosecutor Maryam Yousufzai said just hours later, the young victim had to face her father in the home as she got ready for school.
He offered to give her a lift to school and, as he dropped her off, demanded she not tell anyone of the assault.
The same day, the girl confined to her friend about the assault, who then encouraged her to report the incident.
Police became involved within hours and the girl was taken to a friend's home for her own safety.
When the girl did not return from school, her father contacted the local police station to learn details and returned to the same station seven days in a row, always asking the same thing.
During invesitgaiton, the police found father's DNA inside his daughter's underwear, under her doona cover and on her bed sheets.
Judge Jeff Clarke could only describe the offending as 'simply horrible' as he laid down his verdict.
The man's defense barrister noted his client still had the support of his family and long-term partner.
In fact, the man's parents drove 650kms to be in the courtroom as the sentence was delivered.
It is reported that after serving 371 days in pre-sentence custody, the man will be eligible for parole on June 4, 2023.
