The Lincoln star, Daniel Day-Lewis has announced retirement from acting last week. Day-Lewis is one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation who has ruled over the screen for the last four decades and has bagged numerous awards throughout his career.

The star has not yet given the reason for his retirement. According to his spokeswoman, Leslee Dart, “Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject. ”

Day-Lewis is known for going to extreme lengths for his characters and his phenomenal acting has earned him three Oscars for the movies "Lincoln", "There will be blood" and "My left foot." He has also earned two Academy Awards nominations for the movies “Gangs of New York” and “In the Name of the Father" and has also won BAFTA Award and Golden Globe Award for best actor category for the movie "There will be blood."

Day-Lewis is also famous for being extremely selective about his roles, often waiting for years before taking on a project. According to reports, in the early 90's he gave up acting for a while and was later convinced by Martin Scorsese to return to the screen for "Gangs of New York."
