What makes a television show great? Is it the set? The actors? The premise? Well, yes, but there's one important factor that surpasses all the rest – relatable characters. Think about the greatest sitcoms of all time. I guarantee you that all of these shows consists of a main cast that have made their way into your hearts. They're more than just characters, they're personalities. This can definitely be said about a show like Friends. Joey, Chandler, Ross, Monica, Phoebe and Rachel weren't just on-screen personas, they were our real friends. Maybe that's why we care so much when we hear about the actors and actresses getting into trouble. Here are the darkest secrets of the Friends cast.
#1 Courteney Cox – Monica
Monica was an old soul who liked things done HER way. But in real life, Courteney Cox is much more mysterious. In fact, in 2009 she unexpectedly stopped production of her show Cougar Town using the excuse that she had a serious family matter to tend to. To this day, that matter has yet to be revealed. Seems strange if you ask me...
#2 She also divorced from her husband David Arquette back in 2010.
However the couple still remain close friends and colleagues and are dedicated to raising their daughter Coco together.
#3 Jennifer Aniston – Rachel
Rachel Green may have had some interesting parents on the show, but did you know that Jennifer Aniston actually had a difficult relationship with her real-life mother? In fact, Jennifer and her mother Nancy Dow didn't talk to each other for an entire decade. Dow wasn't even invited to either of Aniston's weddings.
#4 But she's not the only one who didn't get the invite.
Aniston didn't invite any of her male Friends co-stars to her wedding to Justin Therhoux. I guess they were only friends on the show..
#5 Matt LeBlanc – Joey
Everybody loved Joey despite his womanizing ways and simple-headed nature. But apparently the man behind the character also had some issues committing to a relationship. In 2006, he shockingly filed for divorce against his wife because he had started dating actress Andrea Anders.
#6 LeBlanc has also found himself in some other trouble.
He has admitted to being arrested not once, but twice for driving under the influence. Oh, and he likes to frequent the strip clubs every now and then. Classic Joey, right?!
#7 Matthew Perry – Chandler
Chandler Bing was the funnyman, but sometimes even the funnyman has a bad day. Matthew Perry has openly admitted to struggling with drug and alcohol addiction right in the middle of the show's prime. In fact, Perry has checked in to rehab twice and has mentioned that he has trouble remembering three entire years of filming.
#8 But with the support of his friends and family, Perry is back living a clean life.
Congrats Matt!
#9 Lisa Kudrow – Phoebe
Phoebe was always against the corporate big wigs, but in real life Kudrow was actually sued by her manager for a breach of contract. In the end, Kudrow had to pay her ex-manager a hefty sum of 1.6 million dollars.
#10 But for someone like Kudrow, 1.6 million really isn't that much money to fork over...
In fact, she made more than that per episode in 2004!
#11 David Schwimmer – Ross
Ross Geller was never really one to rustle any feathers, and in reality, the guy who plays him is kind of the same. David Schwimmer did, however, manage to really get under his neighbors' nerves. How? Well, I guess they weren't too pleased when he demolished a historic New York City townhouse just so he could build a new one from scratch.
#12 His neighbors were so mad that they decided to get Schwimmer back.
How? By spray-painting the words "Ross Is Not Cool" on a nearby fence. Ouch!
