Actress Morena Baccarin's acting career has reached a new high, but other areas of her life have hit an all-time low. The 36-year-old starred opposite Ryan Reynolds in 2016's sleeper hit Deadpool, and she's quickly become a household name with her principal roles in Homeland and Gotham. While the Emmy-nominated actress may be on top in the work department, her personal life isn't so stellar. In fact, Baccarin has been the subject of much gossip focused around her questionable relationships. Here's a look at the shady romantic history of Deadpool's leading lady.
#1. Bad dreams speak the truth
The Brazilian-born actress and American director and producer Austin Chick got married in November of 2011, and like most Hollywood couples, things seemed gooduntil they weren't. However, there were a few signs that the actress may have been having some second thoughts. In a 2013 interview with People while still married to Chick, Baccarin described the last dream that she remembered saying, "I had a bad dream where I was married to somebody else and I was having an affair with my husband [director Austin Chick]. When I woke up, I was so relieved I married the right guy! " If that's not foreshadowing, then what is? It's too bad Chick didn't turn out to be Mr. Right.
#2.What happens in Gotham...
While still married to Chick, the Gotham actress found love on set with fellow Gotham co-star Ben McKenzie. Looks like they didn't fake any of that chemistry for the cameras. Rumors of the pair's budding relationship had been circulating in the tabloids, but her husband was apparently the last to know about the relationship. Actually, the couple were supposedly working on their marriage, and the Chick was caught off guard by the news that Baccarin had completely moved on.
#3. Flaunting a new fiance and a baby bump
The actress made it clear that she was over her marriage, and she and her new beau made it clear in true Hollywood fashion. Baccarin and McKenzie stepped out on the red carpet for the Sierra Club's "Act in Paris, a Night of Comedy and Climate Action" event in November 2015. This appearance is what some are calling as their first official outing as a couple. And Baccarin was flaunting a new accessory aside from her new arm candya growing baby bump. The pair were expecting a child together. This would be the second for the starlet who already has a son (Julius) with Chick.
#4. Still technically married to hubby number one
Baccarin may have called it quits with her husband, but the fact remains that even while she was stepping out with McKenzie, she was still legally married to Chick. By early 2016, the two began the process of settling their messy divorce. But there were complications: in February of that year, the Deadpool star was put on bed rest by her doctor amid concerns that giving her deposition could cause unwarranted stress for the mother to be.
#5. Last minute custody battles
Baccarin and Chick have joint custody of their son Julius as of this writing, and Baccarin has primary physical custody of their child with Baccarin residing in New York to film Gotham and Chick on the west coast. TMZ reported that one time when Chick went to pick up his son, he walked in and saw McKenzie playing with the boy, and the 37-year-old actor allegedly looked like he had just showered. Chick is not exactly thrilled about the arrangement, especially because the Gotham couple became an item when he and Baccarin were supposedly still trying to fix their marriage, and rumor has it that Chick could possibly be rethinking the current custody agreement. The actress may have a lengthy legal battle ahead.
#6. Better have my money
According to reports by E! News, Baccarin's estranged husband is the one who filed for the divorce after nearly four years of marriage. He listed irreconcilable differences as the reason for their bitter breakup. Even though the Homeland star has been rushing to finalize the split, it looks Chick still has some grievances. And Baccarin may have to pay dearly. According to TMZ, a judge issued a ruling saying Baccarin will have to pay Chick just under $23,000 a month: $2,693 for child support and $20,249 for spousal support. That's just over $275,000 per year that Chick will be pocketing from the divorce.
