More than half of women who menstruate report some pain from period cramps for a day or two each month. Although menstrual cramps may affect most women, they don't affect all women in the same way. Menstrual cramps, also called dysmenorrhea, are usually not a sign of a serious health condition they can put a crimp in your lifestyle.
Try some of these steps if you want to relieve pain and get rid of your cramps fast. If your period cramps seem severe or you don't get relief despite trying some of these options, check with your doctor.
#1 Try placing a heating pad or hot water bottle on your stomach.
#2 Take a warm bath and put epsom salts in the bath. Epsom salts are high in magnesium, a deficiency of which may cause cramping. Warm baths are believed to relax the muscles of the body, making the pain less noticeable.
#3 Go jogging for a little bit. This will give you enough exercise to keep you in less pain.
#4 Massage your abdomen a little to soothe the pain.
#5 Eat a banana. Bananas contain potassium, which may reduce cramps, as cramps could be due to a potassium deficiency
#6 Try to avoid caffeine as much as possible. Having too much caffeine can make your cramps worse.
#7 Try drinking (decaffeinated) chamomile tea.
#8 Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and other stimulants.
#9 Drink lots of water. The more hydrated you are, the better.
#10 Eat green leafy vegetables. These veggies have a diuretic effect and are also a great source of calcium and magnesium, which can reduce menstrual cramps.
#11 Massage With Essential Oils for Pain Relief. Try using lavender oil. Lavender works on a psychological level as well, to calm moods, it’s a great solution for women’s health.
#12 Distract yourself. Stay active to take your mind off the pain. Do simple stretches and exercises.
#13 Try not to think much about it. Focusing too much on the pain will make it feel worse.
Stay busy! An active mind rarely notices what's going on in the body, so whether that's watching a movie, working or spending time with friends or loved ones, resist the urge to curl up in bed and suffer and you'll probably be glad you did.
