I think we have all wished that we could own our own private island away from the rest of the world. Just imagine having someplace warm to run off to and having your own personal staff waiting on you hand and foot. You could spend your days in your bathing suit without worrying about a single person disturbing you. The hardest decision you would have to make would be whether to spend your day at the beach or poolside.
Sadly, owning your own private island costs more money than most people have on hand, but it comes as no surprise to know that some of the richest celebrities of the world own one. Most of us are familiar with Richard Branson's Necker Island home, but did you know that Ricky Martin has his own island?
Eddie Murphy
Eddie Murphy has taken a step back from the spotlight and appears to be retired these days. Honestly, the guy has been working for decades, so he definitely deserves some peace and quiet. In 2007, Murphy decided to make his retirement days a bit more comfortable when he bought Rooster Cay, an island in the Bahamas, for a cool $15 million.
David Copperfield
With some hard work and a little magic, David Copperfield purchased his own little personal paradise in the Bahamas. According to Forbes, he is the most commercially successful stage magician in history. Because of that, it should come as no surprise that he could afford his own island. In fact, he owns four private islands in the Bahamas. You can even go visit him on one of his islands, Musha Cay. It is a resort that you can stay at for $325,000 per week. Maybe he can magically make that kind of money appear in my bank account first.
Mel Gibson
Even though his career has gone up and down over the years, it has not stopped Mel Gibson from owning one of the largest private islands on record. His little piece of paradise is located off of the coast of Fiji and cost him $15 million.
Ricky Martin
Ricky Martin has truly been 'Livin' La Vida Loca' by the beach on his South American private island. He paid a cool $8 million for this piece of paradise located off of the coast of Rio de Janerio, Brazil.
Shakira
This Columbian pop singer also decided to snag herself a piece of island real estate. Despite being from South America, her island is nowhere near Ricky’s but is nestled among other popular celebrity islands in the Bahamas. She paid $16 million for her little slice of paradise.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo DiCaprio owns an island located off the coast of Belize. It is such a beautiful location that he has named it "Heaven on Earth". However, he is not going to keep his little paradise all to himself. He plans on opening an eco-resort on the island.
Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp bought his island in the Bahamas in 2004. It is reported that he paid a mere $3.6 million for it. He named the island, Lilly Rose Beach, after his daughter. How sweet!
Nicholas Cage
It is no secret that Nicholas Cage loves to spend his money on eccentric and unusual items. Rumor has it that he even owns a real dinosaur skull, so him owning his own private island is not really a big surprise. He has a 40-acre island in the Bahamas all to himself.
Other Crazy Things Nicholas Cage Owns
It has also been reported that Nicholas Cage owned a pet octopus, a nine-foot-tall burial tomb, and shrunken pigmy heads. Check out this video to see what other crazy things Nicholas Cage has spent his millions on.
