Elon Musk has issued another stark warning, this time claiming that a nation with a population of 124 million people is on track to lose nearly one million citizens this year alone.

The billionaire has been consistently outspoken about his worries over falling birth rates, saying more than once that he believes it could become “the biggest problem the world will face in 20 years.”

Back in 2022, Musk used his platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a blunt post that read: "Population collapse due to low birth rates is a much bigger risk to civilization than global warming... mark these words."

Fast forward to Tuesday (August 19), and it seems those concerns haven’t faded. He jumped back on X to post fresh thoughts about the looming demographic crisis.

Reposting another user’s comment, the highlighted post read: "The population isn't 'collapsing'. It has collapsed."

He also included another message that read: "The shoreline is receding and no one understands the tsunami about to hit us."

"As US population goes it will be impossible to redevelop. Automation won't replace your customers."

Adding his own words alongside the repost, Musk remarked: "I've been warning about this since the turn of the century."

More recently, Musk sounded the alarm about Japan, warning that the country could see its population fall by close to one million before the year is over.

Reactions flooded the comments section. One person wrote: "Maybe if billionaires were not hoarding all of the wealth we would be more inclined to have more children."

Another user offered a different perspective, saying: "The low birth rate trend is much easier to understand when women are just people. Women are people with ambitions, dreams, fears, hopes, etc. People who want to live full lives and not be relegated to just one function in life. If you want women to have more babies, make sure they can do so without giving up all their other dreams."

And a third commenter added: "Then incentivize having babies! Currently our younger generations are marrying later (if at all), and juggling the high costs of healthcare vs. the expense of buying a home. Wages aren't supporting both options."

Some people have pointed out that Musk himself seems to be taking action on a personal level. To date, he has fathered 14 children with four different women.

According to the Wall Street Journal, leaked text messages between Musk and MAGA influencer Ashley St Clair, who is reported to be the mother of one of his kids, revealed some of his future family plans.

In those texts, Musk wrote: "To reach legion level before the apocalypse we will need to use surrogates."

For context, in Ancient Rome a “legion” referred to a unit of the army that typically consisted of around 5,000 soldiers.
