Eminem has been through a lot throughout the years, from drug problems, a relationship breakdown with his ex-wife, and being sued by his own mother for $10 million. Despite his tumultuous life story being out there for pretty much everyone to see, one thing that he never really opens up about is his mental health.

So when he rapped about having a certain serious mental health condition on his massive track Monster featuring Rihanna, many were sure he was simply using a bit of artistic license. In the song, Eminem raps about having obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD): "Cause the very thing that I love's killing me / And I can't conquer it / My OCD is conking me in the head, keep knocking."

In order to clear up the question mark over whether he really does suffer from the condition, which affects around 1 per cent of the US population, Eminem has spoken out about his lyrics online. Handily, RapGenius.com has a feature which allows the original artists to annotate their own lyrics, which Slim has used to clear a few things up. In his verified annotation, he wrote: "I really do have O.C.D. it's not funny b*tch." Despite the fact that he had to clear things up, Eminem has actually opened up about his OCD in the past. Back in 2013 he spoke to Rolling Stone magazine about the disorder: "I think my OCD is getting worse."

"It's self-diagnosed. Once I got sober I started noticing sh*t about myself. Like running on the treadmill. If I had it in my mind that I needed to burn 500 calories, I hit that exact number. "And with my music, I can tweak it forever to get it right, making changes no one else would even notice. But I don't know if it was always there and it was just repressed with drugs."
