An employee that was forced to set up shop at reception was humiliated after they took over an extra office after a discussion with their boss. They were told in a scathing email that the office was ‘above their position’.
Employee Humiliated For Taking Office “Above Their Position”
Actually liking your job is rare these days. If it's not the work that's bringing you down, it's nightmare bosses wanting to make your life a living hell.
One employee took to Reddit to share their experience after their boss humiliated them for taking over an office with a window.
They said that they took the extra office after multiple discussions and figured they were okay to move in.
They said the office was a casual setup and did not receive visitors.
When they first started out, they were relegated to the reception desk.
When OP made the move, there were two empty offices.
One of the other employees at the office had also changed their office recently which sparked discussion of OP moving as well.
OP's current situation was less than ideal with no natural light or heating.
When prompted, the boss responded positively which led OP to start planning the move, even going so far as to clean out the office for the other employee.
OP then moved into the other one.
Needless to say, the move was a major step up from their current situation.
Their boss in the meantime had been working from home and had not been around to see the move. One coworker decided to snitch and let the boss know that OP had moved.
This was when OP received a scathing email calling them out for their 'entitlement'.
OP said another coworker had witnessed the conversation between OP and their boss regarding the move and was just as confused by the sudden change of heart.
The boss said OP took the nicer office while OP said there wasn't much of a difference between the two.
The boss also said that the location was 'above their position' and even the other empty spot would have been questioned. OP was relegated back to the reception desk.
OP wrote the post from the reception desk feeling belittled and humiliated.
All this, while the empty office would go unused.
OP admits, they should have gotten a final confirmation from the boss but doesn't understand why their boss did not remember the conversation they had about moving offices.
Commenters were quick to suggest revenge and get OP that office.
Others suggested the obvious. Leave the toxic job and boss behind.
Another commenter said bosses need to feel superior by withholding privileges.
