Experts Reveal The Reason Why You Should Never Store Your Milk In The Fridge Door
An expert has shared his opinion on why we have been storing our milk wrongly in the refrigerator all this time.
The people who run the Cost of Living Crisis Tips page on TikTok recently shared a suggestion that may truly help you save money by the way you store milk in the fridge.
According to this person on the famous social media platform, storing your milk on the shelves attached to your fridge door actually costs you more money - and you could make it last longer by putting it somewhere else entirely.
"Don't put your milk on the fridge door like this," they wrote in the overlay text while showing a milk carton crammed up against a fridge door.
They then added: "When you open the fridge door, it pulls away from the cool air - affecting the freshness," before urging people to "put milk at the back of the fridge to make it last longer" and reiterating that the move will "save you money".
The video amassed 752.4K views and 4531 likes on the social media platform, with many users sharing their divided opinion on the potential financial hack.
Some people agreed with the page's advice, with one user sharing: "Correct. Always done it this way."
Another chimed in: "Thank you for sharing."
A third user commented: "I know this to be true, at least in summer - I've had milk go off noticeably quicker when it's been hot. And Cravendale does indeed last longer."
But not everyone seemed convinced by the hack, with one person commenting: "I’ve used my milk in the door for 38 years and my milk [has] never gone off before use by date if anything it’s usually used well before that."
And another person chimed in and said: "The door shelf holds the cold air whereas cold air just flows downwards from a normal shelf when the door is opened."
A third person jested: "it does actually work. I put ours behind the sprouts and the kids can't find it so it lasts a lot longer."
Lastly, a fourth user pointed out: "In all the many years, people have done this with no issue. Our milk is used several times daily, needs to be handy."
As inflation hits people at its worst and people continue to struggle with the cost of living crisis, it has been announced in the UK that many people will obtain a cost of living payment of up to £300 ($370) in addition to the £650 ($800) package for households earning a low income.
Pensioner households who have the Winter Fuel Payment - which ranges from £100 ($122) to £300 ($370) - will also receive an added payment of between £150 ($184) and £300 ($370), per Gov.UK.
