Some of these famous Americans banned from entering Britain might surprise you. I had no idea!
Famous Americans You Won’t Believe Have Been Banned From The U.K.
#1 You Will Never Believe Who Is Banned From Entering The United Kingdom, And Who Could Be Banned
We had no idea that some of America's favorite pop singers, boxers, and reality TV stars have been banned from entering the United Kingdom, but there are many who are never allowed back to the UK, and some who were placed on temporary banishment. How, the citizens of the Kingdom are "banning" together to get someone else blocked from entry, and you'll never guess who...
#2 Martha Stewart
America's happy homemaker and wonder cook, Martha Stewart, was denied entrance to the U.K. back in 2008 after her 2004 conviction and prison time for insider trading. The U.K. Border and Immigration Agency released a statement about the ban, saying that the government opposes entry into the country for people found guilty of "serious criminal offences abroad."
#3 Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg, Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr., was not allowed to set foot on British soil after he and his crew were charged for destroying an airport duty free shop in 2006. After British Airways denied the rapper and music mogul, and his entourage from getting into the first class lounge, they decided to go ballistic and rampage the airport. That kept the rapper out of the country until 2010.
#4 Mike Tyson
In 2012, the U.K.'s tight immigration laws were made even tighter, stating that anyone who had been charged and sentenced to 4 years of prison time or more would not be allowed on British soil from another country. This put the brakes on the former heavyweight boxing champions book signing tour when he tried to go to London in 2013 to promote his comeback. Tyson served three years of a six-year sentence after he was convicted of rape in 1992, and also carries convictions for assault, cocaine possession, and driving under the influence.
#5 Fred And Shirley Phelps Of The Westboro Baptist Church
Those tighter restrictions introduced in 2008 stated that people who spread "extremism, hatred and violent messages," would not be allowed to enter. The Phelps tried to go to England in 2009 to rally against homosexuality, and were blocked at the airport, then sent back to Westboro. "Both these individuals have engaged in unacceptable behavior by inciting hatred against a number of communities," a U.K. Border Agency spokesman said at the time. "The government has made it clear it opposes extremism in all its forms."
#6 Edward Snowden
Snowden is not allowed in most every country, though he has been given temporary asylum in Russia. His leaking of U.S. surveillance data and disclosing information about illegal spying activities on the part of the U.S. government, will make it hard for the CIA whistle blower to travel anywhere without risking extradition back to the United States for sentencing. The UK banned him in 2013, and he is not allowed to enter.
#7 Duane “Dog The Bounty Hunter” Chapman
Way back before he became TV's famous bounty hunter, Dog, Duane Chapman was sentenced to six years in prison for first-degree murder. Though he only served one and a half years of a five-year sentence because he was allegedly only the driver when a friend shot and killed a drug dealer, the UK government refuses him entry to the country. His 2012 refusal letter from the U.K. Border Agency made things clear when it stated: "Records show that you were convicted of one offence which carried a sentence of five years. According to those records, that conviction is not spent."
#8 Chris Brown
The heavy hitting rap and hip-hop singer Chris Brown was banned from entering the U.K. back in 2009 when he applied for a work visa to perform at a Michael Jackson tribute show. He was convicted for battery of then-girlfriend Rihanna, though the concert promoter of the tribute show didn't get the message that he was not allowed to come across the pond to perform. He released a press statement claiming that Brown wasn't allowed into the country merely because of "unforeseen circumstances."
#9 Samson Obama, President Obama’s Half-Brother
Technically not an American, infact, he is a Kenyan, he is the half brother of our most famous American, President Barrack Obama. Samson, back in 2008, while staying in Britain, attempted to sexually assault a teenage girl. He denied the claim to the authorities but he was sent back to Kenya. He was denied entry when, a year later, he tried to come back to the country, and according to the U.K. Home Office, allowing him into the country was "not conducive to the public good."
#10 And... Is Donald Trump Next?
The 2008 law states that anyone who spews or promotes hate speech or insults towards any citizen of the UK, can be barred from entering the Kingdom. It takes one million signatures on petition for the government to act, and so far, the people have provided the government web site with well over 1.2 million requests to keep the multi-billionaire turned TV star, turned US presidential candidate, from entrance to the country. It is still unclear if the action will take place or not, but the petition claims Trumps recent racial remarks against British Muslims, and other things he has said about race and disabilities, are considered offenses in the law. If he is denied entrance to the UK it will be an unprecedented act by the UK government.
