Anthony Dickerson is a 100 percent match for his son, AJ, who was born prematurely without functioning kidneys. But, Emory Hospital said it is ‘reassessing’ the planned transplant after it was learned that Dickerson was arrested in September for possessing a weapon, according to WXIA-TV.

Dickerson was arrested last month by authorities in Gwinnett County. The arrest took place just before the scheduled transplant on October 3, according to CBS 46 TV.

AJ’s mum, Carmella Burgess told 11 Alive news:
"Two steps closer to giving him a kidney and we got shut down, basically."
Dickerson said the Emory Hospital, in Atlanta, wrote a letter to the Gwinnett County Jail, They needed to see whether Dickerson was agreeing to the terms of his parole before they would proceed with the surgery, as indicated by reports.

Carmella told CBS46, Dickerson was actually back out of jail before the scheduled transplant surgeries and the hospital decided his ‘parole-violating activities made him unsuitable as an organ donor’, saying:
The lady said we need your parole information and your probation info. He said ‘why?’ We need you to be on good behavior for three to four months before you can give your son the kidney. And January 2018 we will think about re-evaluating you basically.

Dickerson added:
What does he [AJ] get to do with the mistakes I made? Nothing.
The transplant became more urgent a couple of months ago after AJ suffered a stroke.
"It's about my son," the boy’s mother, Carmella Burgess, told WXIA-TV.

"He's been through a lot. It's like we've been waiting on this. And Dad making a mistake shouldn't affect what he wants to do with our son."
"They're making this about Dad,’ she said. ‘It's about our 2-year-old son."

Carmella set up a GoFundMe page for AJ in the hope of raising $7,000, which has since been exceeded.
Writing on the GoFundMe, Carmella wrote:
"My 2-year old son Anthony Jr was born without both of his kidneys.
He has been fighting for his life since the day he came into this world. Due to this, I have been unable to keep a stable job because of numerous doctor’s appointments and the smallest thing causing him to end up back and forth to the hospital.
I am just trying to get some financial stability because I still have to provide for all of my kids as well as myself. Anything will be greatly appreciated & if you can’t donate, your prayers are always welcome. WE NEED THEM THE MOST!! Thank you in advance."

Carmella believes January 2018 may be too late, telling CBS46 AJ’s body is ‘starting to fail and he needs bladder surgery’.
