Fearless Woman Protested A Neo-Nazi March Completely By Herself

The right to protest is an integral tool that society use to help us maintain some sort of influence in the most upsetting of situations. It doesn't mean that we need to be violent or even use words, we can use other symbolic means to make ourselves heard. Protesting often requires courage even when you are part of a large group. Protesting on your own for what you believe in requires a whole lot more. Enter Tess Asplund. The 42-year-old caused quite a viral frenzy after she decided to take a stand during a neo-Nazi march in Sweden.

It doesn't take a genius to work out why Asplund's protest was so incredibly brave and equally as inspiring. According to the Guardian, Asplund stands at 5 feet and 2 inches tall and weighs just 110 pounds. But that didn't stop her from standing in the path of over 300 neo-Nazis who were marching through the streets of Borlänge, Sweden.
The lady of the hour told the paper that she was overcome with emotion and anger when she saw the white supremacists parading towards her. She said: "I was thinking, ‘Hell, no, they can't march here!' I had this adrenaline. No Nazi is going to march here, it's not okay." Many people have been touched by Asplund's courageous movement, but it wasn't just her who decided to take a stand. A video has surfaced on YouTube, which appears to show another protestor clapping and chanting behind her. However, as he goes to stand by her side, he is savagely cast away.

Since the powerful image surfaced on the net, a number of people have been comparing Apslund to a woman who was photographed over three decades ago. The Swedish lady featured in the picture below also stood up to neo-Nazis, but instead of raising a fist, she smacked one of the marchers with her handbag.

People from all over the world have since taken to social media to express their appreciation and solidarity. I'm not just referring to regular folk like you and me, but celebrities too.

This is an example of how protesters can gather widespread media attention correctly. But sadly people often take to alternative means to voice their beliefs. Case and point: this bloodied protester who was escorted from a Trump rally. Evidently there has been mass interest in Asplund's story and people want to know why she decided to take such a courageous stand. She told the Independent: "They are Nazis. They are spreading hate. They want a white area. If they got control of the country they would kick me out, kick my family out." How parades like these are still happening in 2016 I will never know. But one thing I do know for certain, is that if there were a few more people like Tess Asplund in this world, we could eradicate racism a hell of a lot sooner.
