Felix Baumgartner's Widow Posts Heartbreaking Final Video From His Last Paragliding Flight
The sudden death of Felix Baumgartner left people stunned, and now his wife has shared a touching tribute offering more insight into what happened.
Baumgartner rose to worldwide fame more than a decade ago after pulling off one of the most jaw-dropping stunts in human history. So, when news broke of his passing, it hit hard for fans around the globe.
The Austrian daredevil was best known for his legendary jump from the edge of space back in 2012. He leaped from a helium balloon over 24 miles above the Earth’s surface, breaking the sound barrier on his way down.
Even though that feat was incredibly risky, it wasn’t what took his life. Baumgartner tragically passed away in a much more routine activity—paragliding.
The fatal accident happened in the coastal town of Porto Sant’Elpidio in eastern Italy on Thursday, July 17.
Following the tragedy, his wife, Mihaela Radulescu Schwartzenberg, shared an emotional tribute. Alongside it, she posted a video showing Felix preparing for what would become his final paragliding flight.

In her Twitter tribute, she wrote: "I was filming him taking off not knowing that this will be his last flight of his extraordinary life."
"For over 12y I was there for every take off and landing, from skydiving, paragliding, helicopter flights, paramotor to aerobatic shows. And when I couldn't be there for some heli flights, we had the WLC code - 'the Wifey Landing Call'."
"Never missed one. Except …this one."
According to reports from local media, Felix, who was 56, lost consciousness mid-flight. This caused him to lose control of his glider, eventually crashing into a hotel swimming pool.
He died on impact, according to the reports. During the incident, a hotel staff member was also hurt and had to be taken to the hospital. They reportedly suffered a neck injury.
Mihaela continued in her tribute: "Felix Baumgartner is going home now, up there, where he was the happiest ever."
"Thank you all for your support and for keeping his unique legacy high up. This man was truly special, in so many ways, and I'll make sure I'll keep telling his story."
"But now…., I have to deal with the shock, the pain, the sunrises where I get to make just one coffee, not two…"
Since the news broke, people have taken to social media to honor Felix. Many praised his fearless spirit and how committed he was to every daring stunt he ever attempted.
One person reflected: "This death feels like Steve Irwin's; you expect it to be from something wild daredevil stunt but nope, just paragliding accident. Sad."
Someone else wrote: "I remember his Red Bull jump from space. It was insane. He lost consciousness and came back to. Bro was beast and died being an absolute badass. You can rest peacefully now Champ, you did your thing."
And a third user simply said: "A true daredevil and legend of human courage."
