Elena Gouliakova, a celebrated Russian ice skater who once graced the ice with her performances and was part of the globally renowned Holiday On Ice, has reportedly been found living on the streets of Mexico.

This tragic turn of events has shocked many who remember her as a prominent figure in the skating world.

The revelation came from a Facebook user who claims to have been a student of Gouliakova.

They shared their concern after spotting her in an unexpected and heartbreaking situation.

Gouliakova first came to Mexico in 2001 alongside her then-husband, Nikolay Suetov.

Together, they started a new chapter as trainers at prestigious skating clubs in Monterrey, earning respect and admiration in the local skating community.

One concerned individual shared a photo on social media, showing a woman believed to be Gouliakova, appearing homeless and far removed from her days of fame on the ice.

In a heartbreaking encounter, the woman denied her identity and claimed she worked at a clothing store instead.

"Walking through Morelos Passage, recognizing a face from my childhood, I decided to call out: Elena! Elena!… She looked me straight in the eyes and, resolutely, responded: 'I don't recognize you! I don't recognize you! I'm a businesswoman! I work at Promoda!'" the user wrote, recalling the moment they saw her.

The encounter reportedly took place in San Pedro Garza García, a municipality within the Monterrey Metropolitan Area, where Gouliakova was known to have worked during her coaching career.

"Improvising her escape route, that blue-eyed, golden-haired woman chose to evade any futile interview," the user added, describing the woman's evasive behavior.

They urged people to show kindness if they encounter her, adding, "If you happen to see her, please don't hesitate to offer her a little help and say hello. She is kind, empathetic, and loves being around people. She speaks both Spanish and English fluently, and if you know a bit of Russian, she'll gladly listen to you say Privet!"

Despite her current circumstances, the user emphasized that Gouliakova has expressed no interest in returning to her skating career or accepting help with housing.

They noted that she was their skating coach 13 years ago, leaving a lasting impression on their life.

Gouliakova played a significant role in shaping the skating scene in San Pedro Garza García.

She also contributed to introducing Eduardo Burguete Ayala, a pioneer in establishing ice rinks and skating schools in Nuevo León, to Latin America.

However, her life began to unravel in 2006 when she was arrested for alleged vandalism in Colonia Valle del Mirador.

This incident led to her being admitted to the psychiatric ward at Topo Chico Prison, though she was eventually released due to insufficient evidence, according to Fox News Mexico.

By 2010, Gouliakova was diagnosed with schizophrenia, a condition that significantly impacted her ability to continue as a skating instructor.

The end of her marriage further exacerbated her symptoms, leading to a rapid decline in her mental health, as reported by local outlets.

Schizophrenia is a severe mental health disorder that affects a person's thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Symptoms often include hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking, making it a challenging condition to manage without proper treatment, as noted by the Mayo Clinic.

Effective management typically involves lifelong treatment, including medications, therapy, and support in handling daily life activities.

However, many individuals with the condition may not recognize they need help, leading to worsened symptoms and difficulties in their personal and social lives.

Without proper intervention, those living with schizophrenia face a higher risk of severe episodes, increased hospitalizations, and greater challenges in maintaining relationships and personal well-being.

Elena’s story serves as a poignant reminder of how crucial support systems and timely interventions are for individuals battling mental health conditions.
