The Fast and The Furious franchise has spawned 8 movies with the possibility of spinoffs coming as well. Throughout the films, there have been plenty of fast cars, explosions, hot babes, and unexpected plot twists. The most recent entry in the film series is no exception. So let's take a moment to look at some facts about the making of the film and the history behind it.
#1 In 2001 the first Fast and the Furious film was released.
The action packed film starred Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster. Who knew that this one off film about illegal street races would spawn such a massive franchise.
#2 From illegal street racing to international crime fighters, the franchise has changed quite a bit.
The stakes just keep getting higher as the series rolls on.
#3 F. Gary Gray directed the film.
You might also know him from his work directing The Italian Job and Straight Outta Compton. I think he was a good choice.
#4 Vin Diesel stated in an Instagram post that there would be at least 2 more films in the series.
For those who can't count that would bring the total up to 10. This has been met with mixed emotions. Some are excited for more Furious while others feel like they are beating a dead horse and should have ended things with movie 7.
#5 Minus Tokyo Drift, this is the first film that will not feature Paul Walker playing Brian O'Conner.
Walker sadly died while filming the 7th film in 2013.
#6 Filming took place in New York, Cuba, Iceland, and Los Angeles.
This is a still from a scene in Cuba.
#7 The villain of the film, Cipher, is played by Charlize Theron.
It's okay to admit that she totally looks like a bad ass.
#8 Toretto turns on his friends.
We don't want to spill the beans but Cipher convinces him to turn on the gang.
#9 Hobbs ends up in prison.
According to The Rock, his character will have an epic prison break scene.
#10 Jason Statham returns as Dekard Shaw from the previous film.
Somehow he ends up joining the good guys to help them bring Toretto back from the dark side.
#11 Legendary British actress Helen Mirren is in the film.
Rumor has it that she will play Shaw's mother, Magdalene.
#12 Lucas Black from Tokyo Drift is back again.
Black will be playing the role of Sean Boswell, his character from Tokyo Drift, released back in 2006.
#13 Vin Diesel and The Rock had major beef on set.
Johnson was upset because some of his scenes were cut without notice and members of the cast were lazy and showed poor work ethic. Hopefully, these guys have gotten over their issues.
