Ned Stark- Sean Bean
Sean Bean played Eddard ‘Ned’ Stark in the show, an honorable lord of Winterfell, an ancient fortress in the North of Westeros. Ned is the father of five children including Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Rickon and the adoptive father and uncle of bastard Jon Snow.
Before Game Of Thrones, Bean was a famous actor known for his roles in The Lord Of The Rings, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and National Treasure. One thing’s for sure, he looks completely different now!
Dame Diana Rigg-Olenna Tyrell
Dame Diana Rigg portrayed Olenna Tyrell, nicknamed the Queen of Thorns due to her wit and sarcasm. She is the head of House Tyrell and is shown to be a huge political figure throughout the show, encouraging most of the events that happen within it.
Believe it or not, Dame Diana Rigg is an acclaimed British actress! She began acting in the late ’50s and hasn’t stopped since. A few of her major roles include the James Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, The Avengers, The Painted Veil and Theatre Of Blood.
Charles Dance-Tywin Lannister
Charles Dance played Tywin Lannister in the show. Tywin serves as the head of House Lannister and the Lord of Casterly Rock, to name a few. He is the father of Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion Lannister and the grandfather of incest-born Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen Baratheon.
Charles Dance is an acclaimed British actor. He’s starred in a number of films and television shows such as Alien 3, the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only and Last Action Hero.
Lena Headey-Cersei Lannister
Lena Headey plays Cersei Lannister, arguably one of the biggest characters in Game Of Thrones. She is the twin sister of Jamie Lannister, with whom she has three children. Following the death of her husband, King Robert, and her three children, she acts as the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms
Long before starring in Game Of Thrones, Headey had a very successful acting career. She previously appeared in 300, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and The Brothers Grimm. How different does she look without her trademark golden hair?!
Jason Momoa-Khal Drogo
Khal Drogo was the khal, or chieftain, of the Dothraki people. He married Daenerys Targaryen in the first season and the pair grew to love one another. However, he died at the end of the first season, resulting in the birth of dragons and a reborn Daenerys.
Before Game Of Thrones, Momoa appeared in the original Baywatch series as well as having roles on Stargate: Atlantis and Conan The Barbarian. He’s set to play Aquaman in DC’s upcoming Extended Universe films.
Kit Harington-Jon Snow
Jon Snow is presented as the bastard son of Ned Stark, though it’s eventually revealed that he is actually the son of Lyanna Stark, Ned’s sister. His true parentage is kept from him and his ‘brothers and sisters’ and to escape his bastard status, Jon joins the Night’s Watch and is eventually chosen as Lord Commander.
Interestingly enough, Kit Harington didn’t have an acting career before landing the role of Jon Snow. Harington looked very different when he was younger – it must be the lack of facial hair and muscles
Michelle Fairley-Catelyn Stark
Catelyn Stark was born into House Tully and married to Eddard Stark of House Stark. The pair had five children together and Catelyn was a fierce and protective mother. She dies during the infamous Red Wedding, which also saw the death of her eldest son, Robb, along with his wife and unborn child.
Michelle Fairley is a huge Irish actress. Before appearing in Game Of Thrones, Fairley appeared in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part One as Hermione Granger’s mother, The Others, and Holby City.
Michiel Huisman-Daario Naharis
Michiel Huisman portrayed Daario Naharis in the show. Originally a lieutenant in the Second Sons, Naharis allies with Daenerys and becomes her advisor and lover. Sadly, he is forced to part ways as she sails for Westeros to reclaim her title as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
Michiel’s been acting since the ’90s – though his roles were in more obscure productions! He appeared in a number of Dutch television shows and films before landing bigger roles in World War Z I and Nashville, to name a few.
Alfie Allen-Theon Greyjoy
Theon Greyjoy is the only living son and heir of Lord Balon Greyjoy of the Iron Islands. After his father’s failed rebellion, Theon is taken hostage by Eddard Stark until he is captured by Ramsay Snow of House Bolton who renames him ‘Reek’, tortures and mutilates him. Yes, it’s gruesome!
Surprising to some people, Alfie Allen is the younger brother of British singer Lily Allen. Allen had a few acting roles under his belt before becoming Theon, starring in several films and shows such as Casualty, Atonement, and Jericho.
Liam Cunningham-Ser Davos
Liam Cunningham played Ser Davos Seaworth in the show. Known as the Onion Knight, Davis served under Stannis Baratheon, the Lord of Dragonstone. When Stannis is defeated, Davos allies with Jon Snow, proclaiming him to be the true king.
Liam Cunningham is another Irish actor in the show. Prior to Game Of Thrones, Cunningham appeared in Outcasts, Clash Of The Titans, Blood: The Last Vampire and The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor.
Lain Glen-ser Jorah Mormont
Ser Jorah Mormont is an exiled Northern lord who swore fealty to fellow exile Daenerys Targaryen. He helps her adapt to life with Khal Drogo and serves as her advisor until Daenerys finds out he was a spy for King Robert Baratheon. He’s eventually dismissed from her service, despite being in love with her.
Iain Glen played Mormont in the show, and while many people might not know, he’s actually been in a lot! Glen has had roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Resident Evil: Extinction as well as Doctor Who and The Diary Of Anne Frank.
Stephan Dellane-Stannis Baratheon
Stannis Baratheon is the Lord of Dragonstone, the younger brother of Robert Baratheon, and the older brother of Renly Baratheon. Stannis declares himself the rightful king after the death of his brother. He is eventually killed by Brienne of Tarth for his role in Renly’s death.
Prior to appearing in Game Of Thrones, Dillane appeared in Hunted, J King Arthur and The Shooting Of Thomas Hurndall, to list just a few of his accolades!
Jerome Flynn-Ser Bronn
Ser Bronn is a skilled and very dangerous sellsword who becomes famous when he champions Tyrion Lannister in his trial by combat at the Eyrie. Bronn then enters Tyrion’s service as his bodyguard and enforcer.
Jerome Flynn is an English actor who’s appeared in many shows and films. He’s had roles in Badger, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Soldier Soldier and Between The Lines. He was also one half of the duo, Robson and Jerome who had one hit single in 1995.
