Girl Suffers So Much Stress In 'Toxic' Relationship That She Goes Bald
#1 Her Hair Fell Out The More She Stressed Over Her Boyfriend
She had luscious healthy hair but it began falling out at a dramatic pace when her relationship began to go downhill. It suddenly grew back months later after she found "the one" which has doctors baffled.
#2 Her First Romance Was Disasterous
Ashleigh Alqotaibi from Sheffield, England, a grocery clerk, met her very first boyfriend in late 2013, and things got off to a good start. Sadly for Ashleigh, the romance period did not last very long and soon all the couple did was bicker and fight. Eventually, the constant stress of the relationship began to take its toll on Ashleigh's health.
#3 It Started With A Quarter Sized Bald Spot
As the arguments grew nastier and the eventual break-up loomed overhead, the 22-year-old was shocked to discover a small bald spot on her head about the size of a coin. She simply ignored it at first, and since she used a straightener to give her hair length and pull it back, she simply covered the spot up with her own hair.
#4 She Colored He Scalp With Mascara
But the bald spot remained and even got bigger. Ashleigh stopped using her hair straightener altogether and began coloring the spot with black mascara to hide it. She began noticing clumps of hair in her brush then the spot seemed to double in size in just a few weeks.
#5 Diagnosed With Alopecia Set On By Stress
By the Summer of 2014, the medics diagnosed her with alopecia, warning it was likely to have been brought on by stress. Doctors explained to her that the stress was causing her hair to fall out and she probably would never grow any back. She began covering her head in hats, avoiding mirrors, and wearing wigs, which she knew everyone was staring at.
#6 Hair Falls Out Rapidly
By the end of the Summer, she had lost 60% of her hair. Each morning in the shower she noticed thick clumps falling out. And her boyfriend would not stop hounding her to the point of madness.
#7 She Noticed Hair Everywhere
When she woke each morning the first thing she did was look at her pillow to see if any more hair had fallen out, and most mornings when she woke up she would find entire bushels of hair on her pillow.
#8 She Went To Several Specialists
After visiting several doctors and a dermatologist, it was determined that her alopecia was too severe. She was told that the condition was practically untreatable and Ashleigh's hair continued to fall out even faster.
#9 She Became Severely Depressed
By February 2015 she was 85% bald. She became depressed and even suicidal when she was told that treatments would not work and that she still had too much hair on her body to consider using the steroid treatments on her head.
#10 She Decides To Embrace Her Baldness
After attempting suicide, she decided that the cause of her stress and hair loss was from her toxic relationship, even though she had been warned by specialist months before. So, she dumped her loser boyfriend and decided to live life to the fullest, baldness and all.
"Looking back, I was unhappy in my relationship, but it took a while to link the silly arguments I was having with my boyfriend with the clumps of hair falling out every day. He wasn't the right person for me, I felt stressed trying to deal with his insecurities and controlling behavior. But, with it being my first relationship, I was reluctant to break up with him," she explains.
#11 She Met A Nice Guy
In April of 2016, she met John through work and the pair started dating a month later. Ashleigh did not want to open up to John because of her lack of hair and confidence. However, after gradually opening herself up to forming a new relationship, she became so preoccupied with life, love, and romance that she forgot that she had Alopecia. To her surprise, within a few months, her hair began to grow back, all by itself! Her doctor was shocked, though he warned her that it may not last.
#12 She Says The Love In Her Life Rid Her Of Baldness
Today Ashleigh again has a full head of thick, healthy, long hair. She believes with all her heart that it was her relationship with John that helped to bring it back. The two got engaged in June and hope to be married by next Summer.
"There is no denying that once I got rid of my stressful relationship and replaced it with a happy, healthy one my hair started to grow again. My hair could still fall out at any time, but with John by my side, I know that my love life will never be the cause of stress again."
