The chilli pepper challenge featuring the world's hottest Carolina Reaper pepper went seriously wrong for these two friends.

As girls sat down to film themselves eating the spicy peppers, they seemed to be in good spirits.

But things quickly took a turn for the worst for the friends.

Within seconds the girls' faces contorted and they squirmed in their seats as the agony of the hot pepper hit.

One of the girls can be seen with black tears streaming down her face as her make-up smudges and she screams.

She even needs the help of an inhaler and breathing equipment after the spicy chilli takes hold and she struggles to breathe.

Both of the girls cough and spit as the heat doesn't falter.

"This was the worst idea ever," one says.

"The burn will not go away."

The Carolina Reaper has been rated as the world's hottest chilli pepper since 2013.

But it doesn't look like these girls will be attempting to eat it again anytime soon.
