This twist in the tale left many people on Chinese social media in disbelief, especially because the couple had been dating in person for a year before tying the knot in April.

The groom, known by the pseudonym AK, hails from Naringgul in Java.

He first crossed paths with Adinda Kanza, also 26, on social media in 2023.

Their online chemistry was undeniable, and they soon decided to meet face-to-face.

Kanza consistently wore traditional Muslim clothing that concealed her face completely, citing her deep religious beliefs, AK explained.

AK didn’t mind the niqab; he saw it as a sign of her strong commitment to her faith.

As they planned their wedding, Kanza revealed she had no family to come to the ceremony, so they had a simple wedding at AK’s place on April 12.

She even brought 5 grams of gold as a dowry, although they never officially registered their marriage.

But something seemed off just 12 days into the marriage.

AK noticed that Kanza avoided talking to his family and always wore her veiled outfit, even at home.

She frequently made excuses to dodge any physical closeness, blaming everything from her menstrual cycle to not feeling well.

Feeling suspicious, AK decided to dig deeper and tracked down what was supposed to be her family's address.

To his shock, he found out Kanza was not an orphan as she had claimed—her parents were very much alive.

Even more shocking, Kanza turned out to be a man named ESH, who had been cross-dressing since 2020.

It turned out that ESH’s parents didn’t know AK and had never heard of him as their "son-in-law."

When confronted, ESH admitted to the police that his plan was to marry AK and swipe his family’s wealth.

The police remarked that ESH was convincingly feminine, especially with makeup on, and even noted: "His voice is somewhat high-pitched, much like a woman’s voice."

They speculated that while ESH had relationships with women, he might have also enjoyed impersonating a woman in relationships with men.

ESH is now in custody, facing fraud charges that could lead to as much as four years in jail.
