It was after a reckoning icy storm when Wally Nelson found a 19-year-old woman identified as Jean Hilliard frozen to death outside his home. Nelson was on his way out when he noticed the human body covered with ice.

Hilliard was reported to have visited a friend despite the grave downpour of snow and had to look for refuge when her car skidded and lost control into a ditch. Despite the negative two degrees temperature, she struggled to brave the mad snow hoping to reach someone she knew nearby.

Although Hilliard appeared to be a solid human ice sculpture, Nelson rescued her and immediately rushed her to the nearest hospital. It was only later that night, when Hilliard's hands and arms began to defrost followed by her legs on the third day.
The doctors were stunned to think that Hilliard miraculously survived without undergoing a major amputation but only required an almost three and a half month confinement.
