These boys have become internet heroes after showing up to school wearing crop tops to protest the sexist dress code of their school. People love the energy and applaud the boys for stepping up.
High School Boys Protest Dress Code By Wearing Crop Tops
Time and time again we find ourselves co erring yet another story about sexist dress codes and how they are used to criminalise teenage girls.
This time around, the boys have joined the fight and are protesting these sexist dress codes in their own unique way; by wearing crop tops.
While the original video was set to private, it has been preserved in the form of a stitch on a TikTok account where someone dueted it to comment on.
Solvej Wren who dueted it said, “This is what I’m talking about when I tell people that Gen Z is creating a world that I will be comfortable birthing a daughter into, or a son into. Thanks, guys, your moms are really proud of you.”
The video shows teenage boys in different coloured crop tops, baring their midriffs and looking quite proud of themselves.
The caption on the video shows, “Dress code can lick my nuts.”
Mason Boudreau, 17, who originally made the video said that he made the video after organising a protest against College Heights Secondary School.
“Girls at my high school just got dress coded for the dumbest reasons. like ripped jeans or a rip too high or wearing leggings.”
He started borrowing clothes or cutting up his own in order to participate. He wanted to show that if he was able to walk around school all day without breaking code, then the dress code was inherently sexist.
Soon enough other boys joined in.
“There was probably about 15 of us… and none of us got sent home. And we walked past the principals and they wouldn’t really do much. It was really weird to see.”
One boy was coded for wearing “spaghetti straps”.
There have been moves to abolish sexist dress codes from schools that claim that female clothes “distract” male students and teachers.
This is when he decided to beat them at their own game.
One Women Empowerment Club member said after testifying in a case against such policies, “I also testified about experiencing male teachers looking me up and down and commenting on my body or clothing choices in front of my classmates, which I find degrading and revolting. As I told the school board, teachers enforcing the dress code against me and my female classmates made us feel more like objects than human beings.”
The student body won the case at the time but there is yet to be a development in the case for the crop top rebels.
While most comments were supportive, some simply did not pass the vibe check.
People were shocked how some people could twist positive experiences but were glad for the support they got from others.
