Holding Your Hand In This Position Is Proven To Help Your Body And Mind
Holding Your Hand In This Position Does Something Incredible For Your Body — Here’s How
From the bending meditation of yoga to the precise relief of acupuncture, we’ve found plenty of ways to relieve our aches and pains beyond the confines of traditional medicine. Yet, there’s another method of which many Westerners are totally unaware.
Originating in India, mudra hand gestures are designed to stimulate all parts of the body—and mind. There are eight basic gestures in all, and when you see what they can do, you’ll be trying them right away!
#1 That familiar position, and several others are called Mudra hand gestures.
They consist of eight different positions, and each one has a bigger impact on your mind AND body than you’d ever realize.
Even if you’re skeptical about what your fingers could do to put your body and soul at ease, you should still give them a shot. They require no training, but billions (yup, billions) of people have used them to enrich their life in simple and complex ways.
Below, you’ll see what each one can do for all sorts of issues you might face in daily life.
#2 Gyan Mudra
This gesture is believed to increase the air element, and to help with enthusiasm, creative thinking, and drowsiness.
#3 Vaayu-mudra
The anxiety is more and more present in our lives and we should find a way to eliminate it for good. This gesture is thought to reduce anxiety and decrease the air element.
#4 Aakash Mudra
As you’ll see, these are all very slight variations on one another, but each pose serves a very different purpose.
But touching the middle finger to the thumb, you can rid yourself of consuming emotions like anger, short-term sadness, and fear.
This pose increases the “space” element in the body, which is different than the air element we mentioned earlier. Because it’s used to help detoxify, it can even help with congestion or heartburn.
#5 Shunya-mudra
It reduces the space element and relieves ear pain.
#6 Prithvi Mudra
This gesture increases the earth element and decreases the fire element. It also relieves fatigue and help muscles heal.
#7 Surya Mudra
You guessed it! Place your ring fingers against the base of your thumb, rather than the tip, and you’re good to go on this one.
This one’s less versatile, but more effective in a specific way. Applying gentle pressure here can actually help you fend off shivers and cold feelings.
Pretty cool, huh? It won’t replace a jacket or a warmer space, but it’s a short-term fix!
#8 Varun-mudra
This gesture reduces the pain in the joints, cramps and arthritis. It is believed to increase the water element.
#9 Jal Shaamak Mudra
This gesture is believed to decrease the water element, and is good for those who have excessive sweat glands, runny noses, and watery eyes.
Those are some super simple ways to potentially help your body run right — and you can do them while sitting at your desk. Not bad!
