After powerful Hollywood personalities are reported for their sexual misconduct, the Hollywood is protesting against sexual harassment and abuse in their own manner. One such idea is to wear black by celebrities in Golden Globe Awards 2018 that are to be held in the first week of January, to show unity to the victims of sexual harassment. This idea of protest where on one hand has been appreciated by many has also raised criticism among many.

Earlier this month, it was reported that several actresses at Golden Globes Awards 2018 are going to wear black in showing their unity against sexual harassment, which appeared in the light of recent sexual abuse scandals and has revealed the name of some of the most powerful Hollywood personalities.

According to latest updates, not only actresses are going to show their part in #MeToo campaign but also some of the male actors will also play their role and wear black in solidarity to their fellow actors.

This was reported, when Celebrity hairstylist Ilaria Urbinati on her Instagram posted that majority of her male celebrity clients will be the part of #MeToo campaign. She wrote "Because everyone keeps asking me… YES, the men WILL be standing in solidarity with women on this wearing-all-black movement to protest against gender inequality at this year’s Golden Globes. At least ALL MY GUYS will be. Safe to say this may not be the right time to choose to be the odd man out here… just saying…”
Also to note that Dwayne Johnson replied on his post saying "Yes we will" thus, further confirming it.

Now that we know that major celebrities are wearing all black in their protest against sexual harassment, which apparently has been going on for years and only coming to light in the last few days. Now the honest question which arises here is that how does wearing black is going to help all the cause. The question raised by the critics is that how does only changing the colour of the dress is going to help the victims.

According to many critics on Internet, this 'silent protest' as they call is ineffective kind of activism. It is in no way going to help the sexual abuse victims. Activist April Reign giving her idea of a real protest said, "You know what would REALLY be a protest? No women on the red carpet as far as the eye can see. THAT would be a statement."
Actress Heather Matarazzo agreeing with April said, "As a native NYer, my wardrobe is mostly black. Want to really protest? Wear sweatpants, or an outfit from the #HandmaidsTale and invite other victims of sexual assault/harassment rape as dates. Or go #Lysistrata and stay home."

Also, one important point raised by the critics is that the major target for wearing black is to protest and create awareness. The point here is awareness of what and against whom? As far as we all know sexual harassment and abuse is not something new for anyone and also everyone is aware that this is something that is going for years in Hollywood. The powerful ones taking advantage of their unaccountable power and the weak ones keeping quiet or forced to do in order to save their career.

However, unlike everytime of brushing the topic of sexual harassment under the rug, this time media is finally taking the stand and all those so-called powerful personalities of Hollywood who all these years have taken unnecessary advantage of their position are now revealed. The names are out to the public.

It is very clear now that in order to fight against abuse and injustice the message has to be loud and clear or to do something that will at least create a rift in the system as stated by Time's Silence Breaker cover. One example of real protest is when actress Brie Larson, didn't acknowledge when accused Casey Affleck won an Oscar and didn't take part in the applaud. Also, her refusal to not be a part of the celebration on the stage didn't go unnoticed.

The issue of sexual abuse has now been going on for years in Hollywood. Needless to say, it is high time that the celebrities together should take a real stand and should get over with these 'silent protests' and teach these ignorant beings what the real women power actually is.
