When a mother discovered a dead body in her son's bedroom, she was horrified.

A 'distinct gas smell' was detected in their home, prompting the unidentified mother from Los Angeles to peek into her children's room.

On Sunday, August 13, at 1.15 a.m., she discovered a woman's body wrapped in plastic after investigating the unusual odor.

The mother was understandably surprised, so she called the police, who showed up at her Wall Street house in the wee hours of the morning.

Local reports state that paramedics also responded to the scene but tragically declared the woman dead.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has since identified the woman found in the bedroom as Hannah Rachel Collins.

The 30-year-old's cause of death hasn't been determined yet, though.

How long the woman's body had been in the bedroom before it was discovered is unknown.

It was revealed last week that a judge in another part of California who is suspected of killing his wife with a gun had 47 guns at home. Judge Jeffrey Ferguson, 72, of Orange County, California's Superior Court, was detained after his adult son contacted 911 to report that his mother, Sheryl Ferguson, had been shot at the family's residence in the posh community of Anaheim Hills, according to a statement from the district attorney's office.

At around 8 o'clock local time, the 65-year-old woman was shot at the residence. Despite the fact that police arrived on the scene quite quickly, emergency personnel declared the woman dead. A day later, Ferguson was granted a $1 million bond and released.
