For Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin), Christmas went from being a child's dream to an absolute nightmare. in Chrimbo classic, Home Alone. The film came out in 1990 (when the Cold War was still a thing and before most of us were even alive), and saw little Kevin being left to fend for himself in a massive house while his family forgot about him.

Poor Kevin, it wasn't his fault his parents decided to have a million out of control children.

Anyway, you know the drill, he gets left at home but still manages to defeat two creepy burglars who really should have tried harder at school because, quite honestly, they clearly weren't cut out for this ‘robbing' business. 25 years may have passed, but this still looks like the most sure-fire way I've ever seen of ruining your own festive season.

But, other than bringing us vintage yuletide joy, what have the cast been doing in the quarter of the century since the film's release?

Macaulay Culkin (Kevin McCallister)

Little Kevin is actually a 35-year-old man now shocking how the passing of time can do that to a person. After the Home Alone films made Macaulay a millionaire by the time he was 12, he went on to star in the sequel and, ironically, Richie Rich a film about an incredibly rich boy who doesn't really know what to do with his money.

After his child actor fame subsided, Macaulay unfortunately struggled with heroin addiction. Although he is now clean, the acting work has sadly dried up and his biggest role in recent years was voice work for animated comedy show, Robot Chicken.

Catherine O’Hara (Kate McCallister)

Catherine O'Hara had already hit the big time before Home Alone with her role in Beetlejuice, but she is now an Emmy-winning actress with roles in Orange County and Tim Burton's Frankenweenie.

John Heard (Peter McCallister)

Playing Dad in Home Alone and Home Alone 2 are probably John Heard's biggest roles to date, but he was in the epic made-for-TV film Sharknado, alongside Tara Reid.

Joe Pesci (Harry Lime)

Joe Pesci was already a massive star, known for his gangster roles, when he joined the Home Alone cast. He officially retired from acting in 1999 to work on his music career

Probably not the best move...

Daniel Stern (Marv Merchants)

Daniel Stern may have put his body on the line when it came to baubles, but it didn't secure him any massive Hollywood roles. Instead the actor has had a steady stream of acting jobs, most recently as a recurring role in WGN's Manhattan.
