Jason Momoa Wasn't Always The Tough Guy You See On Screen. Check Out His Growth From Teen Heartthrob To Big Screen Bruiser.

Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa was born on August 1, 1979. He is half-Samoan, half-German. Many of you know him from his role on Game of Thrones as Khal Drogo and as Aquaman in the upcoming Justice League film. You might think you know all there is to know about him but you might be surprised by these facts for everyone's favorite Hollywood cool guy.

#1 Momoa was born in Hawaii in 1979. Shortly after birth he was moved to Iowa with his mother and raised there.

This is Jason when he was just 13. Who, at this point, knew he would grow to be such a beast?

#2 After graduating, he went back to Hawaii and got his first acting role joining the cast of Baywatch: Hawaii

His IMDb biography states, "I was 19 and folding T-shirts in a surf shop. And I got chosen out of 1,300 people to play a leading role on Baywatch Hawaii. I didn't even know how to act. It took me five years to get an agent after [that]. No one would take me seriously after Baywatch. I lived in the shadow of that for a long time."

#3 He finally got his big break by landing the role of Ronon Dex on Stargate: Atlantis

His time on Stargate gave his career the boost it needed.

#4 In 2008, he got in a fight at a bar. Some guy smashed a drinking glass over his face.

As a result, he had to get over 140 stitches and reconstructive surgery. One good thing came out of it though. He got the awesome scar that would go on to become part of his signature look.

#5 Jason is an avid rock climber.

#6 He also loves to play the guitar.

While filming Justice League, he would often have impromptu jam sessions in between takes.
