The worst thing about getting old isn't gray hair or wrinkly skin or losing your teeth. It's the possibility of not being able to care for yourself and having to trust that someone else will.
Being a full-time caregiver is one of the most difficult jobs in the world, especially if those you care are mentally compromised in addition to being physically weak. Dementia is a complex, confusing condition—for the patient as well as those who care about them. It can be frustrating to deal with people who are present in body, but completely absent in mind. When caregivers are improperly trained, or just soulless assholes, the opportunities for abuse multiply quickly.
A recent incident at a British nursing home makes this painfully apparent. Shocking video obtained by the Manchester Evening News shows two caregivers taunting vulnerable dementia patients by torturing their comfort dolls.

Comfort dolls used for therapy for dementia patients, were apparently snatched from care home residents, and photographed in a number of sickening positions at the Ashbourne House nursing home in Middleton. These pictures were sent to the Manchester Evening News, which brought the matter to the attention of the nursing home's owners. Two staff have been suspended.
