Johnny Depp Could Testify In His Own Defense At A Battery Trial In Los Angeles

The proceedings come as Depp and his attorneys continue to revel in their legal victory over Amber Heard last week.

Depp, 58, testified for over four days in Fairfax, Virginia, in his bombshell defamation suit against his ex-wife — and a jury returned a verdict largely in his favor, awarding him $10.35 million in damages.

Meanwhile, his upcoming trial is scheduled for July 25 in Los Angeles Superior Court and stems from a July 2018 suit brought by Gregg “Rocky” Brooks against the actor.

A witness list filed in the case in October 2019 includes Depp’s name. Others named on the 18-person witness list include Depp’s lawyer Adam Waldman, his manager Ed White, his personal bodyguard Sean Bett and his sister Christi Debrowski — all of whom previously testified in the defamation case.

Reps for Depp couldn’t confirm Wednesday if the actor would testify. Two of the attorneys who represented him in the case against Heard, Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez, are also set to defend him in the LA lawsuit.

Brooks — who was a location manager on the set of the 2018 crime thriller “City of Lies” — is accusing Depp of punching him two times in the rib cage on April 13, 2017.

The alleged assault took place after Brooks told the star and the director that a scene featuring two of Depp’s friends wasn’t working.

During the spat, Depp allegedly screamed at Brooks, “I’ll give you $100,000 to punch me right now!”

Brooks claims that he went to find a Los Angeles police officer when things started heating up — but Depp allegedly socked him before he was able to find help.

Brooks’ lawyer, Pat Harris, told the Sun last week that he’s not worried about the outcome in Depp’s favor in the defamation case, since the two trials are so different.

“While we respect the jury’s decision, it has no relevance to Mr. Brooks’ case in Los Angeles,” Harris told the outlet. “Brooks’ case is not about two Hollywood celebrities involved in a toxic relationship.”

“It is about the assault of a hard-working film crew member by the star of the production,” the lawyer said. “Mr. Brooks looks forward to his day in court.”

Brooks is asking for an unspecified sum in damage in the personal injury suit that also names the film’s producer Miriam Segal, director Brad Furman, Depp’s production company Infinitum Nihil and Good Film Productions. Brooks alleges assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and other claims.

Depp has denied all of Brooks’ allegations. Brooks' attorneys, Arbella Azizian and Pat Harris, didn’t immediately return requests for comment.
