Johnny Depp's ex-girlfriend, Ellen Barkin will be testifying against the actor in his defamation trial against Amber Heard when it resumes following a more than weeklong break in proceedings.

The trial began yesterday after a 10-day hiatus in which Depp, 58, is suing his ex-wife Amber Heard, 36, for claiming to be a victim of domestic violence and maligning the actor's personal life and career.

Depp is suing his ex-wife Heard in a defamation trial for $50 million.

The trial has been going on in Fairfax County, Virginia, and after the actor's legal team wrapped up the testimony from the actor's side, Heard's legal team is busy presenting her side to the court these days.

According to Entertainment Weekly, actress Barkin had a short fling with the Fantastic Beasts star sometime in the '90s. They first met while starring together in the 1998 movie, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Barkin had taken the stand at Depp's libel trial against UK tabloid The Sun. Johnny Depp sued the British tabloid but failed to win the libel case.

At the UK trial, Barkin told the court that during their dating period together, Depp was verbally abusive to her and even claimed that her ex once threw a wine bottle across a hotel room during a heated row with some friends.

While on the stand, Barkin said Depp never physically assaulted her but described him as being violent on occasion.

Meanwhile, Depp refuted her claims, suggesting that she was motivated by a "grudge" she was holding against him.

"A sexual element began with Ms. Barkin which lasted for months on and off really because she was making the film I was making at the time, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," Depp said.

"She wanted a proper relationship with me and I did not want that. I didn't feel the same about her as she did me and I suppose from that moment on she became very, very angry and since then I have not spoken to Ms. Barkin," he added.

Apart from Barkin, Amber Heard's sister Whitney Henriquez is also expected to take the stand soon.
