Johnny Depp Spends $62,000 On Curry? Big Night Out In Birmingham
Johnny Depp has been celebrating his win in the most interesting of ways. This weekend he was seen spending over $62k on curry at a Birmingham curry house.
While this may sound like an ungodly number to shell out for a bit of curry when you could really get a pretty smashing meal deal for a tenner, Depp was accompanied by 20 others, along with bandmate and legend Jeff Beck who helped him scarf it all down.
The star who is still in the UK post courthouse win against ex-wife Amber Heard where he was awarded $15 million in damages by the jury.
The team of 20 along with Depp and Beck noshed at a Birmingham hotspot called Varanasi where they ordered Butter Chicken, poppadums, paneer tikka masala, king prawn bhuna, and lamb karahi. It goes without saying there were also a lot of naans that just kept coming.
Mohammad Hussain said he was surprised to get a call one day informing him that Depp wished to visit his establishment.
"I was shocked and at first, I thought it might have been a wind-up," he said.
"But then his security team arrived, checked out the restaurant and we let them have the whole place because we were concerned that he might be bothered by other diners."
He said that Depp had been lovely all evening and called him a ‘down-to-earth bloke’. Depp also mingles with staff members and their friends.
"You would never have thought that he was such a big star."
Hussain said that he had to promise that they would never reveal the final amount of the final bill but that money would not be an issue that day. He did reveal that the bill was around five figures high.
He added that the evening had been more profitable for him than his best day of the year when he had 400 diners.
"We made more money from Depp’s visit than we did from our busiest night of the week, which is a Saturday when we have around 400 diners."
"In addition to the food, there was champagne, wine, and all kinds of drinks being downed. Depp and his group had a great time. They loved the food, the ambience of the restaurant, and the service that we provided. It was a real honour to have him here," he said.
He added that while Depp was happy to mingle with everyone at the restaurant, there came a point when the attention became too much and Depp decided to hang out alone with the operations manager in his office. He says that he is still ‘pinching himself’.
