COVINGTON, GA (WXIA) What probably looks like a treat to the average pet may hide a deadly secret after locals near Covington began finding something nasty inside.
Hot dogs are being dropped along the road and once dogs nibble on them, they are finding that the treats are filled with nails and screws, which injure the pets.

Toni Edwards said her daughter was walking their Jack Russell terrier mix Wednesday morning in a subdivision off of Cowan Road when she noticed the dog pick up something.
"Skippy was on a leash, started eating something," Edwards said. "My daughter quickly dug it out of his mouth, and saw the screws."
Looking down, she saw several hot dog pieces on the ground, screws and nails poking out of all of them.

She brought the pieces home and called Newton County Animal Control. The folks at Animal Control said they were going to contact police.

Edwards' son later suggested contacting the people at the home where the hot dog was found. The person at that home said he thought some "troublesome teenage kids" who walk the neighborhood probably did it.
She said that later on, police told her nothing could be done other than for Edwards and others in that area to be wary of other similar treats laced with foreign objects.
