Give any room in your house a magical touch with our beautiful floating teacup design that you can make yourself! If you love all things ethereal and elegant, we can’t image a better decoration than this adorable DIY that turns an ordinary cup and saucer into an artistic and winsome household decoration.
#1 Materials Needed
To create a luxurious floating teacup for your mantle or anywhere in your home, you will only need a few items. Many o the which you probably have already if you're into crafting. But this project is so easy that you don't need any previous skills.
You'll need a cup and saucer of your choice, a fancy old one from a long lost table setting would look beautiful. You'll need just one cheap fork, some hot glue, some floral pieces or cut up a plastic arrangements, and a small rock.
#2 Step One
To start, take your inexpensive fork, probably from the dollar store, and just bend it at the base so that the handle is pointing almost upward or at a slight angle.
#3 Step Two
Pour adhesive onto sauce and flatten tines into glue until it sets and holds in place. Put extra glue on top of the tines. You can use a clear adhesive but hot glue works just as well. Make sure you use plenty of it and then wait for a few minutes while it dries.
#4 Step Three
If your fork base is just about dry, take a small rock or two tiny ones, and hot glue them on top of the fork. This will not only hold your fork in place, but it will keep the cup and saucer from tipping over once it's decorated. Wait 2-30 minutes until dried completely.
Place your adhesive or hot glue inside the cup, and don't worry about how well it looks, it will eventually be covered up. Place the tip of the fork handle into the hot glue, press firmly to hold in place, and let it adhere to the inside of the saucer as pictured.
#5 Step Four
Now, cover the entire handle of the fork with adhesive. Press a string of vines, leaves, or even flower petals to the hot glue on the topside of the fork. Wait a minute or two while this dries. Add a few silk flowers in the glue until the handle is entirely covered.
#6 Step Five
Add some more hot glue inside your cup and place more vines, flowers, or petals inside the cup so that it looks life the cup is overflowing with flowers. Next, move down to the saucer, and cover the fork and rock with glue, cover with the same type of silk arrangements or petals and wait until it is fully dry.
#7 The Finished Project
Throw it on your mantelpiece or table for a perfect medley of quirky floral designs and cute teacups. We love the whimsical look of this design. It’s straight out of our every Victorian design daydream. But you don't have to limit yourself to antique cup and saucers and flowers, the only limit is your imagination.
