Police are currently investigating a confusing case that has stunned many, where a man mistakenly burned a woman he believed to be his wife, only for his actual wife to reappear alive a few days later.

Ram Sumer, a 60-year-old man from India, reported that his wife Phoolmati had gone missing after leaving their home on June 15.

Concerned when she did not return, he promptly informed the police and filed a missing persons report.

Four days later, in Bansgaon, Gorakhpur, a woman's body was discovered.

Sumer, upon seeing the body, identified it as his wife's and arrangements were made for her cremation.

However, subsequent post-mortem examination revealed a shocking truth - the dead woman had been murdered.

This finding led the police to explore deeper into the circumstances surrounding her death.

In a dramatic turn of events, Phoolmati's mobile phone was traced to Jhansi, located approximately 11 hours and 372 miles away from where the body was found.

She was found alive in Jhansi, accompanied by a man named Shubham. The couple confirmed that Phoolmati was indeed alive and well.

On June 22, she was reunited with Sumer.

Now, authorities are diligently working to unravel the intricate connections between Sumer, Phoolmati, Shubham, and the deceased woman.

The bizarre and tragic saga has sparked widespread discussion on social media platforms.

A Reddit user posed the question, "Who did he cremate then?"

While another pondered, "Who was the woman that the man from UP cremated?"

“Everything is planned,” commented another.

Speculations abound, with some suggesting there might have been a planned deception.

Interestingly, this incident is not an isolated case of mistaken identity leading to cremation in India this year.

In February, there were reports about an Indian woman who had been badly hurt in a fire at her house.

They said she "came back to life" just before her husband was going to burn her body.

Bujji Aamma, who is 52 years old, got burned on half of her body and went to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for help.

Sadly, her family said she got even sicker after she left the hospital, and a couple of days later they thought she had died.

When they thought she was dead, her husband, Sibaram Palo, arranged for a car to take her to be burned in the crematorium.

"We thought she was dead and informed others in the locality to arrange a hearse van to carry the body to the cremation ground," he told the Times of India.

But a person who was with Aamma in the car saw that she opened her eyes.

"Initially we were scared as we had never seen such an incident, though we had heard some stories," he explained.

After this strange thing happened, Aamma was brought back home in the car.
