According to KTUL, John Armstrong was drinking with relatives in Tulsa on Saturday when he began fighting with his stepfather over the game.
Man ‘Shoots Family After Monopoly Game Gone Wrong’
After a game of Monopoly went horribly wrong, a man is accused of shooting at his family.
The renowned board game has been known to cause the odd feuding families over the years.
Hurtful words have been spoken, and chairs have been knocked over in disgust, but everyone has typically escaped unscathed.
However, one monopoly game in Oklahoma took a terrible turn.
According to the Tulsa Police Department, John Armstrong and his stepfather got into a fight while playing the game, and things quickly became violent.
“After knocking over the Monopoly board and turning over furniture, another family member told Armstrong and his stepfather to take the fight outside,” police revealed.
Armstrong is accused of pulling a pistol and following his stepfather and stepsister down the street at gunpoint.
The stepsister reported to authorities that one shot was fired at her during the altercation.
Armstrong was arrested when police arrived on the scene.
He was later accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to authorities, Armstrong admitted to firing one shot 'to the ground.'
Officer Danny Bean of the Tulsa Police Department explained: "He said he was aiming for the ground when he shot at them.”
"But we came close to having a homicide over a game of Monopoly.”
"We don't know if it was about game pieces, play money, real money, but something set him off."
According to KWCH, when officers arrived, they discovered Monopoly money and game pieces strewn over the home.
According to the Tulsa Police Department's Facebook page: "Armstrong won’t be able to use the ‘get out of jail free card for this one."
According to the New York Post, he is currently being held on a $25,000 bond.
It's unclear what caused the initial dispute that allegedly resulted in the shooting.
A Monopoly game can become heated for a variety of reasons. You could end up in jail, be rinsed while walking through Mayfair, or simply suffer a string of bad luck.
Armstrong and his stepfather's argument could have been completely unrelated to the board game.
