His method? Skip tipping altogether and always leave a tip of exactly 0 percent, no matter the situation.

Tipping is a particularly heated issue in the US.

It started in sit-down restaurants but has now spread to other parts of the service industry and beyond.

This means that even at places like cafes or food trucks, the expectation to tip has become more common, adding to the debate.

As the usual tip rate climbs to 20 percent and beyond, some research shows this might actually hurt restaurants economically University of Illinois Stock Photos

The laws around tipping vary across different states.

Some states allow businesses to pay tipped staff a lower hourly wage as long as their tips bring them up to at least the minimum wage.

Others require that all staff, tipped or not, are paid a statutory minimum wage.

Still, the general cultural expectation in the US is to tip service staff.

Recently, though, this has been questioned as tip requests pop up in more places.

He claimed his savings totaled a whopping $152.92, which makes you wonder just how much he was spending on dining out.

This was how much the poster saved after a week TikTok/@idontip

Let’s break it down. If you assume a 20 percent tip, that’s $764.60.

A 10 percent tip means he might have spent a huge $1,529.90 in just one week.

With dining bills like that, saving on tips seems like a drop in the ocean.

Needless to say, people had plenty to say about this practice.

Many people had similar suggestions for him.

One person said: "If you can’t afford it, it’s ok! Just don’t go there."

Another wrote: "Have you ever considered just not dining out?" while a third commented: "This is awesome man, nothing better than stiffing poor waiters."

Others were a bit more understanding, sharing their own tipping habits.

One person wrote: "Counter service is fine but if you’re not tipping when you sit down at a restaurant u shouldn’t eat there."

Another shared a simple rule: "If I’m standing up to order I’m not tipping. If I’m sitting down getting served it’s no problem."
