A dad from the US recently went viral for his candid explanation about why he doesn't "help" his wife with household chores like cooking, cleaning, and looking after the kids.

J.R. Minton, a UPS driver from Texas, decided to share his thoughts on how household duties should be handled in a video he posted online.

"I don't help her clean, do laundry, take care of the kids, none of that, because I do what I'm supposed to do as a father and a husband."

This bold statement initially made many viewers brace for a backlash, as it seemed to challenge commonly accepted norms.

But Minton was quick to clarify his point, adding an unexpected twist to his earlier comment.

He continued: "I cook. I clean. I do the laundry. I take care of the kids."

This might appear contradictory at first, but Minton was making a critical distinction between merely helping out and taking full responsibility.

He passionately explained: "I can't help my wife do those things because they are my job too.

"Change the way you speak, change the way you think. And grow the f**k up and be a man."

Minton’s message struck a chord, shifting from what seemed like a controversial stance to an advocacy for equal partnership in household responsibilities.

The reactions from viewers quickly changed from shock to support.

One viewer admitted: "I was getting heated there for a second."

While another commented: "I was about to be salty. Glad u clarified."

Others echoed the sentiment of shared duties, with one saying: "Yep! My husband and I recognize it's BOTH our kids and BOTH our house therefore BOTH our responsibility."

After the video went viral, Minton spoke to Today about his perspective on family roles, which he says was largely influenced by wanting to set a better example than what he saw growing up.

He also touched on the frequent underestimation of dads' roles in families, sharing an anecdote that highlighted this societal issue:

"I was wearing the baby and I had two kids in the cart, and this lady comes up to [my wife] Brittany and she's like, 'Oh my God. Is this your husband!?

"Look at him. You should take a picture of him'. I get so much credit for doing nothing. How low is the bar?"

Minton hopes that his message will encourage more men to actively participate in home life.

"We are not helping our wives, we are not babysitting our kids. That way of thinking needs to change," he stated emphatically.

"It's time to grow up."
