A drug bust in the Netherlands has left people in stitches after the discovery of something completely unexpected.

While drug raids often turn up unusual and sometimes bizarre finds, officers are typically prepared for surprises. But this particular incident managed to catch them completely off guard.

Police in southern Netherlands came across a peculiar garden gnome during a search, and it turned out to be far more interesting than a regular lawn ornament.

As detailed in a BBC report, the officers uncovered a garden gnome weighing approximately 4 pounds, and it wasn’t made of ordinary materials. Instead, it was entirely crafted from MDMA, a highly illegal and potent drug.

This strange gnome was found among other narcotics during a drug raid, making the entire situation even more surreal.

Social media quickly buzzed with humorous reactions to the discovery, and even the police themselves couldn’t resist joining in on the jokes surrounding this odd find.

The Dongemond Police, who were involved in the operation, shared their thoughts and provided details about the discovery on social media.

In a translated post, they mentioned: "Drugs appear in many shapes and sizes, but every now and then we come across special things."

They further explained: "In itself a strange place to keep your garden gnome. That's why we decided to test [it] for narcotics."

In a playful addition, authorities joked that "the gnome himself was visibly startled," referring to its design with hands dramatically covering its mouth.

MDMA, also known as ecstasy, remains an illegal substance in the Netherlands. Despite its prohibited status, the country has become one of the world's top producers of the drug, especially in recent years.

While the exact location of the drug bust wasn’t disclosed, the Dongemond Police are responsible for areas such as Oosterhout, Geertruidenberg, Drimmelen, and Altena, suggesting the operation occurred within these municipalities.

The bizarre story naturally drew a flood of reactions on Reddit, where users couldn’t help but make light of the situation.

One commenter wrote: "Crazy that someone would use MDMA to make their garden gnome. Like if they just sold the MDMA instead of using it for decoration they probably could have bought dozens (or more!) of garden gnomes made out of regular materials. I guess that's still illegal though."

Another user humorously noted: "Now that's f****** hilarious. If they had just sent the gnome I feel like they could have gotten away with it."

"Or maybe they were on drugs when they came up with the idea 'I know man, I know, we'll put a bunch of drugs in with the drugs as a decoy!'"

Another person chimed in with: "I imagine this is the sort of hijinks you need to pull to smuggle large amounts of product."

One more added with a clever pun: "They should've made it a girl gnome and called her Molly."

Of course, no conversation about this peculiar find would be complete without someone asking: "What are your garden gnomes made of then?"
