Mel B Finally Explains How The Spice Girls Got Their Nicknames

Like any girl growing up in the '90s, I was obsessed with the Spice Girls. Seriously, who wasn't?! I had the posters, notebooks, dolls, CDs, and of course, the coveted Spice World on VHS. Nothing was sadder than waking up to hear the news that the girls had disbanded. But they did have a reunion in 2007 and I'm pretty sure everybody's heart burst with happiness. There have been rumors that the women are ready to come back together and sing the old hits.

While promoting her new stint on Broadway, Mel B kept quiet about a reunion, but she did reveal something that's been on everybody's minds since the Spice Girls came to be: how did they get their nicknames? And now we have the answers!

Since the Spice Girls split up, all the women have had such successful and amazing careers!

Emma Bunton, Mel B, Mel C, Geri Horner, and Victoria Beckham have all had solo careers. Victoria has her popular fashion line, and the other women have gotten into TV presenting.

Now we know them by their real names, but at the time, they were just known as Posh, Baby, Sporty, Scary, and Ginger.

But how did they even come up with the names?! Mel B finally reveals the origin story!

While she was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Mel finally revealed how the girls got their popular names.

And they owe it all to a random journalist after an interview.

"We had this one journalist that I guess was extremely lazy. Couldn't bother to remember all of our names and just gave us nicknames."

"'That one's a bit scary, that one's a bit posh' ... and they just kind of stuck."

Mel said the journalist just "couldn't be bothered," but she's okay with it!

"It kind of just worked ... I like mine because at least I'm scaring people before I even walk in the room."
