#6 National Safety Council
The National Safety Coucil issued the following tips to keep kids safe.
Supervise children at all times and keep their play areas away from windows.
Windows should be closed and locked if children are present.
If a window is open, be sure that it is out of the child's reach. (In the case of double-hung windows, this means opening the top sash but keeping the bottom one closed.)
Do not rely on screens. They are meant to keep bugs out, not keep a child in.
Do not place furniture near windows, as that could encourage children to climb the furniture and fall out of the window.
Do not allow children to jump on beds or play on top of furniture.
To child-proof a window, consider installing limited-opening hardware, which prevents the window from being opened more than a few inches.
#7 Window Guards
The Boone's now have this window guard, and it is something that most parents overlook.
