#1 Parenting Comes With Huge Responsibilty

Parenting is never easy. Though it is a start of a beautiful relationship, one which cannot be described in words, it also comes with a huge responsibility. You always have to be on a watch out for your child. Especially if your child has some kind of food allergy, then the worst horror for the mom is that her child gets exposed to the food that he is allergic to.

For Sophie Cachia, the horror came true when she added a new flavored sauce to her son Bobby's pasta.

#2 Adding Walnut Sauce To Bobby's Food

While pregnant with her second child, Sophie was preparing dinner for her infant. She realized she has never added walnuts in Bobby's food. Recalling the moment, Sophie says, "I thought to myself, 'Mmmm walnuts? Has Bobby had walnuts before?' But I quickly brushed it off because at nearly 2 years of age, Bobby had just about tried every food and had no allergies."

Done with the preparations, Sophie served the food to Bobby.

#3 Red Mark On Skin

Sophie says that while trying to eat the pasta Bobby missed the first bite, sending pasta sauce flying down on his arm. Cleaning the mess from her child's arm, Sophie saw a big ugly red mark on his arm, making her wonder how hot she made the sauce, "I grabbed a cloth and said, 'You silly billy!' before noticing how red his arm was. 'YIKES! How hot did I make that sauce?’ I was absolutely positive I had tested it and it was OK."

#4 Bobby Immediately After Taking The First Bite Started Foaming At The Mouth

Still wondering about the red mark, the next thing which happened confirmed to her suspicions. Bobby after taking the first bite of the sauce started foaming at his mouth and he developed rashes all over his body. Explaining the absolute horror of the situation, she wrote, "The next bit I can only explain as a zombie plague and it only took seconds. His mouth started to bubble and mini-hives appeared before I even had time to say CRAP. In a time of panic you don't always think logically."

#5 State Of Panic

Not knowing what to do, Sophie immediately called the first person who came to her mind. Asking her mom on phone on what to do next Sophie realized her son has developed beehives, "He started to scratch like a dog and cough."

Without wasting any more time she called her husband and asked him to come home right away.

#6 Making Wrong Decision

Regretting her decision to not calling an ambulance as when Sophie and her husband were taking Bobby to the hospital they hit traffic but in her state of panic, Sophie could hardly function properly, let alone think logically. The only thought that was going through her mind was to save her child.

She wrote, "The panic in these situations is so high that we just went, 'JUMP IN THE CAR!' because together we thought we could get there quicker. In hindsight, this was a TERRIBLE move," Sophie admitted. "In those 10 seconds of grabbing my bag, with Bobby under my arm, the most horrific thoughts started going through my head. I'm going to kill my son."

#7 Desperate Mother Trying To Save Her Baby

Sophie didn't realize how bad her decision was until Bobby started wheezing and coughing badly, "I started to cry hysterical tears and squeal because I was regretting not calling the damn ambulance. That regret was very overwhelming and drowning my thoughts. Once Bobby started wheezing and vomiting in the back seat, Sophie finally realized she could lose her baby boy right then and there. I knew my son was struggling to breathe and all I kept thinking was how much his reaction had escalated in ten minutes."

#8 This Is It, I Have Lost Him!

Trying to get hold of her thoughts Sophie's whole world paused when Bobby's body stopped shaking and he went limp. This was the point when she thought she has lost her child. The choking, vomiting, and crying turned to utter silence. Bobby had gone limp."

She wrote. "This is when I vomited on myself driving and let out a scream that I didn't even know was inside of me. I was a desperate mum who had made a bad decision. 'This is it,' I thought. 'I've killed my boy.'"

#9 Lucky Baby

Sophie's prayers worked and Bobby miraculously survived his first anaphylactic reaction. Doctors, however, have warned Sophie that Bobby won't be lucky every time and if he is exposed to the allergy second time, the effect could be much worse. She wrote, "We have learned that with anaphylaxis to nuts the reactions can get worse. That whole scenario I've just recounted would have all happened in no more than 15-20 minutes. If he is to come across walnuts again the reaction will be greater. Perhaps quicker. Perhaps fatal."

#10 Baby Boy You Are My First Love

Sophie calls herself lucky that her baby survived that night. She wrote, "Luckily for us, we walked out of the hospital that time with a healthy boy and two educated parents. My baby boy. You are my first love. You'll always hold such a special place in my heart. Mumma is so sorry for doing that to you."

#12 What Is Anaphylactic Shock And What To Do In Such A Situation?

Anaphylactic shock is a condition which is developed when a body comes across a foreign particle and reacts violently to it. This mostly occurs in people who are allergic to something. In response body's immune system release chemicals that spread through the body and lead to the shock.

First aid treatment usually includes epinephrine injection which helps to reduce the severity of allergy also, antihistamines which help to relieve inflammation symptoms but if the reaction is too severe then these alone are not sufficient and the patient must be immediately taken to the hospital.
